兩睇。

好似D 望族，老當家仲健在，似乎較希望子孫去傳統學校，可能希望保持某D 價值觀，守業重要。超人兩個仔讀傳統，本來都安排長孫讀傳統。白手興家既，好似呀蟲呀龍兩位，佢哋唔會無得揀，都係讀完傳統先轉去國際。

某程度，係擁抱傳統價值既人，更傾向傳統學校。

眼睇香江八卦名流圈，富三代更傾向揀國際路線。

所以唔知自己小朋友係咪叻, 只想佢唔會成為班裏最差無自信無學習探索精神, 無機會develop interests only focus on academic, therefore choose IS.

講得有道理。學校教中文是教中國文化修養，小時候背文言文，實際是讓學生欣賞到中文的優美。現在唔駛讀，更甚是文字棄繁取簡，是學生的損失。呢d文化層面的教育是要靠從小浸淫，外補補不來的，也最好用繁體字來學，至少有小六程度，之後入IS或放洋至理想。
當然很多家長只對英語推崇備至，覺得學太多中文是多餘。
我有朋友的孩子英國出生，小學跟父母回流香港讀ESF, 當時也學不到什麼中文，只說英語，後來讀大學時不知怎的開始要找身份認同，才倒過來自己不斷要去找課程學中文。

如果講networking, 一定ESF好過LS! LS不是DBS,只是津校，老實說有錢有地位的家長很多也會選擇國際或直資學校，較少選擇津校！

Agree with you on this point. That's why I'm happy to see so many international schools now offer the option of traditional Chinese teaching to students.

I'm sorry to see such a response, which is like saying something simply for the sake of arguing, or 'childish' (forgive me using this word). What is your point and does it add any value to this discussion? Do you express like this in your organization?

True But I think it's always good to speak more languages if you have the chance to learn. Like my friend's daughter who is in GSIS now she said she wanted to be a doctor, but she can't speak Cantonese and I think her development in HK will be much limited. Sorry has to quote the example of " doctor" again.

Having said that, you do take some risks if your kid studies in IS but does not have a foreign passport. Apart from the big jobs, most local jobs in Hong Kong (government, local firms) do require much Chinese. If he has a foreign passport, he can choose whether to work in Hong Kong or overseas. But if he doesn't, he has to work in Hk but his choice of jobs will be limited.

As long as the student speaks fluent Mandarin, he will be fine in the big firms we are talking about. It is not necessary to have the level of Chinese literacy required in local school nowadays, unless the world language will change to Chinese in future, where all written correspondence will be in Chinese. If that's the case, learning simplified Chinese is better.

I do think Chinese is really important in the future. One of the fact is for ESF kids they usually got no interest in Chinese at all so it's hard for them to learn it well generally. They rarely read Chinese books. To my surprise, some, even don't speak Cantonese at all even parents speak Cantonese to them at home. For this group it's probably harder to find job here. SIS and ISF Chinese are good, comparable to local. Also schools like FIS and GSIS require to study french or German, so Chinese will become third language , GSIS even started Chinese at p4. I think people will need to almost forgo Chinese or get heavy tutuition if they get into these. Problem is the kid got little interest and incentives  in reading and learning chinese so that's the tricky part.

I am an in house lawyer, work in american and european ibank for more than 10 years. I studied in local school, never studied abroad. I choose local school for my kids, reason being i dont familiar with international school education system, although i am not native, i am doing well in my current job. I am also afriad my kids will be too wild and 反叛 if studied in IS. In fact I find local school graduates at my generation, thier foundation work is much better than those from overseas. 但現在的教育也真的頗深，所以我也会struggle whether should study in IS.  What i can tell 樓主is that chinese is very important nowadays and likely in the future as well if u will work in hk. ISF Chinese should no doubt ok, but esf? I really not sure. What i heard is that their chinese is really soso. My plan is 順其自然，有免費書讀点解要spend 咁多去玩and hea, 仲要出去補中文。在local讀得有几辛苦都睇家長有几介意成績，十几年後係点，中文or english more important no one knows! Anyway 我都唔知study in local or IS is better,  所以先上黎刨文, 暫时未見到好convincing reason我要讀IS... :)

以IB公開試成績來看，本地名校尖子當然優秀，但一般國際學校學生也達平均36分，而香港大學對IB學分入學要求為30分，假若只以公開試成績來看，多於一半國際學校學生成績能達致入學水平，相信用"非不能也，實不為也"形容國際學校學生對選擇本地大學情況，可能較為合適。
