中文Pathway 3 的學生 IB 可否考Chinese B?

Also depends on where you are applying to.  Taking Chinese B may be seem by US universities as not challenging enough.  I know some students applying to the US will take 4, instead of 3, high levels subjects, i.e. Chinese B high level plus 3 others.

I think universities would look at the background of students.
Many international school students take Chinese B, some do not even study Chinese for Group 2. They have no problem with getting into local universities (including medicine and law).
However, universities may be not as lax with local IB schools. That is probably also one reason, most local IB schools only offer Chinese A as Group 2. For obvious reasons, local students in local schools cannot take Chinese B.

Around 5-6 years ago, IBO stopped using the "number of years" a student learnt a language to classify where he belongs. Many IS stream students in different level of Chinese classes. So for those that have always studied Chinese as a second language, they can take Chinese B. Some students however can keep up with "native" level and thus there are students that are able to take Chinese A.
Similar situation for local students. Local students learn English as a second language and thus they can take English B, even if they have learn English since K1.

Hong Kong local school curriculum = English second language.
So technically, they can take English B.

這問題不易答，IB 定義 language A 是 first language, native or the best language, language b 正名是language acquistion, ie to acquire and use the language in a range of contexts and at the same time promote an understanding of another culture through the study of its language. 如一香港學生生長於香港人家庭，自少在国際學校讀，應考中文A定B？

It is never a choice when it comes to Group 2 subject. A student has to take a Group 2 according to his or her ability. If a student has the standard of Chinese at native level, he has to take Chinese A. If you do not want to take Chinese A, there are other languages you can choose. A lot of students take French or Spanish, etc.


(2) 英基 暫時方向, 想迫學生考lang A chinese



No one can be forced to take a language class. It is all about the policy of IBO as mentioned. IB is a very challenging program. If you felt being forced to take a subject, then may be IB is not suitable for you. Consider alternative programs at ESF. Note that you have a web name "bforbtec". I am sure you know BTEC much better than a lot of other people here. It is a very good and practical program and lots of BTEC students are able to go to universities.


(3)  從小到大學校都用那麼少時間教，中文和其他外語的上課時間差不多。根本無可能叫學生考Chinese A。


Like I said, no one can force a student to take a language level that is not appropriate.
Those that were recommended to take Chinese A, are those that really have the ability and standard of Chinese A.

No bilingual diploma will be granted for taking 1 lang A and 1 lang B.

One can in deed get a bilingual diploma by taking 1 lang 1 and 1 lang B.  There are two ways to a get a bilingual diploma:"Receiving a bilingual diploma[p=24, null, left]A bilingual diploma is awarded to candidates who complete and receive a grade 3 or higher in two languages selected from the DP course studies in language and literature.
[p=24, null, left]Students who gain a grade 3 or higher in studies in language and literature and a grade 3 or higher in an individuals and societies or science subject, completed in a different language, will also receive the bilingual diploma."

[p=24, null, left]So, if one takes Chinese A and Eng B and then individual and societies/science subject in English, he/she will still get a bilingual diploma.

No bilingual diploma will be granted for taking 1 lang A and 1 lang B.
But as far as I know, not every parent/ student is concerned about getting a bilingual diploma, all depending on your target universities/ programs.

總不能說父母是中國人，小朋友說流利中文，中文就一定要很好，就應該考第一語言。如果是這樣，中國以前也不會有那麼多文盲。最重要是看學校本身是否以中文為第一語言來教。

我朋友女兒自少英基讀，考Chi B SL,  如要考A真有难度，她說大部分也考B SL

近5年,120人 平均 只有6人 考lang A 中文

根本無能力考, 學校多舊魚


承諾 寫做 英成 Year 10

Can ESF take French instead?

Check out with your own school. Each school offers different options.
I think Spanish and French are 2 of the more commonly offered classes.
Probably available to all ESF.
