Transfer from a local school to an international school

Does anyone have a success story to share that a student from a local school (Cantonese speaking, not one of the English medium schools) has got into an international school (e.g. ESF, ICS, CDNIS)? Usually at which grade does the transfer take place?

我見你另一個post説大女轉校後要作很多補習才追到成績，而且很昂貴，那會不會其實跟留在local school 的生涯差不多？

May I know which IS school your kids are studying?

I know someone who went to a government primary school then switched to an ESF secondary school. The main challenge is the switch in language (not just on paper, but the learning environment and culture).

My two kids switched from LS to IS several years ago. My son joined an IS Grade 7 in 2002 after he completed his primary education in a local primary school. My daughter joined an IS Grade 8 in 2007 after she completed F.1 in a local secondary school.

Both of them settled well in the IS.

最初有點不習慣的，因為本身她的英文在班上很好，但一到國際學校英文卻不太好，她的同學溝通都是全英的，所以一開始有點溝通不了，結交不到很多朋友。而且國際學校的教學模式跟local很不同，很多是essay要自己找資料，但過了大概三個月就習慣了，成績也很不錯，很開心

我三個女都是從local school 轉到 international school 的，大女是在中二是轉的，二女在小二，細女高班。當時她們都考到好幾所都okay出名的國際學校，我都有幫她們報ESF (South Island)，但沒有位，waiting list 超長，之後她們考到ESF 的 Discovery College，但在愉景灣，太遠所以放棄了。後來都成功考到 CIS, CDNIS, SIS, ISF 和 HKIS。其實如果要轉就最好趁早，因為競爭較細，成功機會大d

I think for most IS secondary schools, many students will go overseas and hence is always easier. In fact the higher grades will have more vacancies

Dont know if you meant *capability wise* or the chance of being admitted is slim (in the sense of demand and supply)?

I know a lot of DGS girls like to transfer to GSIS.
Also know one SFA kid transferred to Aus IS.
A few local schools students to Yiu Chung IS secondary.
ESF never heard so far.
If u ask me, I think Yiu Chung may give higher chance, may worth a try too.

Thank you for your valuable input. Personally I have never seen one single case of a local school student successfully getting into an international school. I wonder where the impression is from that it's "easy" for a local school student to transfer to an international school while it's difficult the other way around. But of course it doesn't mean it is not possible - it's just I will need to work hard on it.

True. 最近一個case.本地小四。傳統名津小，在校成績不錯，考VSA、CAIS筆試也不成功。在巳緊迫的功課上，如要再練好英文，相當吃力。
