My girl is local. And I wanna put her in esf primary but since we live quite far away from those esf kindergarten so I m thinking if I can just let her go to some international kindergarten first. But heard that is hard to get offer or even interview chance if the kid isn't from esf kindergarten. Can anyone provide more info. Thanks !

You live in Tuen Mun, I suppose...

Gigamind Kindergarten in Tin Shui Wai. The English standards are high. Lots of kids end up going to Harrow, Yew Chung or other international schools. If you can't get in, apply to Gigamind Primary School. Nearly 100% get into English schools - local or international.

It may not be that bad, if you have paid $500k for a place, you won't give it up unless something much better comes along so it should be a happy loss :)

You pay $50k initial deposit to buy the child an interview, and then ...

----(1) If the child fails the interview you'll get your $50k back, end of story.

----(2) If the child passes the interview, then ...

--------(2a) If you decline the school's offer, you'll lose the $50k deposit, end of story.

--------(2b) If you accept the school's offer, you'll have to pay the remaining $450k right away, then ...

------------(2b1) Child starts classes in August as planned, your $500k is well spent.

------------(2b2) Child has a better offer and goes to the other school, your $500k is wasted.

Basically, at point (2) you say ta-ta to $50k because you won't get it back whatever happens, and at point (2b) you kiss $500k goodbye.

Clear enough? :)

Nomination Right is just that, i.e. a right.

You pay an initial deposit of HK$50k to buy a "right" to nominate a child to attend an admission interview, the moment the child goes for the interview, the right is exercised and you'll only get your $50k back if the child fails the interview. If the child succeeds and you decline the school's offer, you'll lose the deposit. If you accept their offer you'll have to pay the remaining amount right away, and you'll lose all of it if the child ends up not going to the school. It is not a debenture that you could sell or redeem or transfer.
