求美國升學意見

小女是今屆DSE考生，怕她成績未如理想，正計劃看供她到美國升學（多一手準備），但見大部分媽咪都是讓子女到英國繼續學業，未知兩者之間英國是否較為理想，希望jm能提供資料。同時亦希望有子女在美國升學或準備升學的jm能分享心得，謝謝！

SAT與AP是兩個不同範疇的試，SAT是報讀美國四年大學的考試，同類考試還有ACT。每間大學對申請學生有不同的SAT/ACT分數要求，有些大學還會要求SAT 兩至三科subject test成績，資料通常可以在個別大學的網頁內找到。

AP試並不是一個大學入學考試，可以說是一個程度較深的學科試。大部分大學視AP相約於大學一年級，所以會讓考取到一定分數的考生，於大學freshmen year豁免該科目的學分，視乎該AP科目與報讀學系的關連性。IB試同樣可以獲得學分豁免。


另外，由於AP/IB程度較深，所以會有較高的high school weighted GPA及較佳的印象分，有助於考取大學。


簡單來說，若要報讀美國四年大學需考SAT/ACT，AP試不一定要考，但若成績好，對報讀大學有幫助。

多謝你嘅提點因我妹妹在美國，所以我選擇了一間比較接近佢屋企的community college,現在I-20已在速遞回港途中，想請教接下來應該怎樣做？因我冇經agency公司，所以有點擔心，謝謝！

個人意見： 上community college 的確是一個short cut 升上四年制的大學。揀community college時，盡可能以近間好的大學附近的。因為有四年制的學生會自己到community college 報讀short courses. (以前我都有去community college報讀AutoCAD, 因為當年AutoCAD是新科技。)

找間community college 在你心儀的University附近，transfer credit 唔駛比人審來審去。通常兩間近的學校一早已定好credit transfer的手續。唔好事旦。除非因為居住的問題，因為community colleges未必有宿舍的。

community college有少許似香港的IVE 和 associate degree, 近似職業培訓。讀完可以唔上4年的university, 直接出來工作大有人在。

你好！小女申請了美國的community college，現正等學校出i20，由於我並不是經agent搵學校（有家人在美國），請問如果收到i20後，接下來香港的程序是怎樣的呢？謝謝！

Can't answer how would an essay from Hk students as my friend is connected to HK before he is not assigned to read application from Hk. But I can share how it's with alumni's kid. He said alumni's kid is gonna enter into 2 nd round of the admission, but still, if it's not good , it goes trash. So that's make no diff if u are an alumni's kid or not. But for those donate a great sum of money, the school will make sure the kid is performing good at the interview ( make sense ). Some school which is financially poor ( still be too 50) accept more donation.

英國大學本科3年，碩士1年；美國大學本科4年，碩士2年。
美國大學的學術水平非常高。

Master degree in UK mostly take one year, how about master degree in USA ? Please share.

美國好的大學比英國大學多很多，但好的當然不容易被錄取。
美國大學靈活得多。出來找工作也極之吃香。

I thought if the goal is just  entering a community college and then transfer to a 4 year college , there is no need to take  the high school completion program. Community colleges accept students who are over 18 years old.

That's true. At least the kid won't need to  take the SAT and just focus on the GPA in cc

HK students are not sorted in the same pile with mainland students.
