A question for children in English & Cantonses speaking families

Each child is diffident and each family is diffident too.  As long as they have the environment to listen, speak, read and write, I am sure they will know it.

沒有對孩子特別規範, 不過我以中文同佢地講野多, 有時訓話會用英文.  

唔洗咁緊張, everything will come natural, 不過如果你想佢識中文, 又讀 IS, 最好都係 自己同佢講中文多d, 不過我又唔覺得要100%中文, 唔知點解, 對親我大個個訓話, 好多時覺得英文順口d .  雙語孩子兩樣都冇同時只學一樣的孩子咁fluent, 無可避免.  佢地學一種語言(講)流利, 比單語小朋友要多d時間.  我兩個一個6歲半, 一個8歲啦, 你可以話佢中文流利, 但有d辭彙一定冇咁豐富, 英文亦然. 聽就一定完全冇問題.  最緊要係佢地唔會唔講中文, 我好怕見到d小朋友讀IS, 唔願講中文.

Actually, I am doing what the opposit of all the experts say ....

I have to rules, no routines, I mixes Cantonese and English, if she wants to speak in English, I let her; If she wants to speak in Cantonese, I am also ok. I never say : Speak English （and vice versa）！

And she is flute in both ，with just a hint of accent in Cantonese，but everyone is amazed of how good her Cantonese is （she is mixed race）！

I think because I do not try to force her or judge her on her language preference, she feels more free and confident to develop her language skill.

Full English before 2yrs old
Starting Cantonese & Mardarin together, then I realized she mixes every she know.
I said around 2.5yrs old, we try this. Very hard for us, b/c we mix English and Cantonese all the time. My child will said :"It's English time! Or It's Chinese time!"
Sometime I will tell her something in Cantonese, then she has to ask the helper in English.
I know friends who start teaching Chinese later on to the children. They just speak Chinese to them at home.
Just be careful when you speak Mardarin on the street, pplz will give you that "Big6" look.
