如果父母都係LOCAL,小朋友冇外國PASSPORT,係咪就算入到ESF KINDERGARTEN都好難入到小學?
因為我見佢個網頁寫要收70%持有外國護照既學生
"In line with the Education Bureau requirements, at least 70% of the total students enrolled will qualify as ‘non-local’, defined as being holders of an overseas passport."

I read from the website that their selection basis for interview is "working through the list".  Do  ...
All Year 1 applications are placed initially on the waiting list, and then they will send out interview invitations by working through the list according to the priority categories, i.e. staff children, sibling, nomination right, alumni children, ESF kindergarten children etc, and within each category they will go by the random number drawn against each application. The interview itself is not difficult since they only verify English verbal skills, so it is true that if a child is invited to interview then the chances are high.

Abacus and CWBS is 80% foreigners and remaining 20% local chinese, Korean, Japanese,Indians. Guess its because of the demographics that lots of foreigners live in the Sai Kung area.

何柬 family ...

you mean that you have heard Mills ?

I attended their open day on 24/8 and I quite like the school (except the location - it is next to some industrial buildings - I have concern over the safety issue) ...

will you consider attending their PG and then apply ESF K ?

I also live in TKO and my boy now attends PG at Victoria. I have the same plan as you (attend ESF K). I know that there is a new Preschool in Yau Tong. Mills International Preschool (opened by Ms.HoTung) - not sure if there is any advantage ...

Sorry I'm not very familiar with CWB but traditionally many non-locals study there and Abacus too. Not sure if this is still the case.

Agreed, Fatty daddy. My point is to respond to the original question that, with or without foreign passports, may not really be an issue in ESF schools.  I know quite a lot of local families with HKSAR got P1 offers this year.

Given that expats tend to reside on the island side, the phenomenon you described could be a matter of demographics rather than an actual difference in admission preferences with regards to nationality for different ESF schools.

I say this because Discovery College (in Discovery Bay) is arguably the "most foreign" among all schools under the ESF umbrella, yet it is a PIS like Renaissance, where 70% of the students should be local residents. This goes to show that in a cosmopolitan city like Hongkong, appearance is no longer indicative of nationality, there are many locals with foreign citizenship and there are many foreigners who are local residents.

At the end of the day, for a local without foreign passport, it goes without saying that their chances are better with the two PIS colleges.
