My son finished starters at p1. I'm glad that he keeps Cantonese as his mother tongue while his English and Putonghua level is improving consistently. That's enough. No need to compete. There's enough too late.

不要作無謂比較也不要介意有些人早考（除非你有實際需要），Cambridge English Exam. 已有很多年歷史及專業經驗，你可以相信他們提供的資料。

In addition, nothing superior  or inferior when a Chinese chooses to let their kids learn Chinese or English more FIRST.

I know some kids speak English more often than Cantonese at home since they were born, though their parents aren't native English speakers. And they go to international kindergarten then. It's normal  if their English level is higher at an earlier time. ( Is their Chinese level affected?) Is there any kids who still speaks their mother tongue more often, goes to general kindergarten, and still finished Flyers at P. 1? That's a super kid! I just want to say, comparsion is meaningless at this point. A kid who pay effort in learning English can speak and write fluently one day!

If you remove the names of band 1 schools (say 1/3 of all schools) and randomly choose a school and test their students, I bet the average is near P5 or P6 or even lower.  Of course it does not apply to parents who consciously train their children to do Cambridge or children who are just very good at English for one reason or another.

There are students who can do FCE at P1 and there are students who can hardly spell mother or say a complete sentence at P1.

I suspect the majority of students do not test themselves at P1.

It may be late to include this in a portfolio for secondary admission, but it is not too late to learn.

Too late?  For what?  If i just want to test the child's English and did not intend to use it in Secondary admission, there is nothing too late.
