無國界義工 all camps are full. Any other good choices?

I want to enroll my children to overnight camps for training their independence.  But the 無國界義工 all camps are full.  Any other good choices?  Their camp filled up so quickly.

Yes, my kid did joined the camp.  Actually, she has did it twice - one at the age of 8 and the 2nd time at the age of 10.  She is expecting to do it again at a higher age which would have even more exciting challenge activities.  As you expected, there are no sudden changes after 5 days but it is a good experience for them.  They would see how different kids react to the challenges in different ways.  In the camp, they have to tidy up their own bedding, they could not make any home calls during the whole camp period - a learning experience for parents too.  Besides, they could have the opportunity to have fun in the real nature envirnoment rather than the virtual world of the internet that they spent perhaps too much time nowadays ...  I think you could make a call to Outward Bound and they would be happy to explain in a lot more details.

小童群益會係咁，你去邊個中心入會，就收果個中心資料。不過你如果知另一中心的活動都可以用會員價報名。你搵「康山兒童中心」就有。灣仔活動一般比康山「複雜」，價錢亦較貴，係早兩年我比較同一個農場日營發現的。FYI呢個義工活動已經滿左喇

Most often, kids are stronger than we thought, that's why they're overly taken care of.  Did you mean your kids joined this camp in previous years?  How did they feel?  Did you see in what aspects that they are different after they finished the camp?  I don't mean really tremendous life changes, but I do hope they really get more independence e.g. knowing the time, do things in a timely manners.  etc.

It is "expensive" but very good value for money.  Let's look at this from another angle, if your kid would find it tough, it would be a really good opportunity for her to learn & grow.   By the way, the trainers there are very supportive and they would not force any kids to take any challenges if they do not feel comfortable.

I think our kids are usually much stronger than we think if they were given the opportunities.

The point is "do you see this as an educational activity or an entertainment activity?"

The price is quite expensive:  HKD4xxx for 5 days!  But the coach-trainee ratio is low, so that's why.  I just worry it would be extremely  tough for my elder daughter.  Anyone had sent their kids to this outward bound course before?  What do you think?

Oh yes, that's something I'm looking for but is there a "lite" version?  My kids are small, 6 and 9 years old.  Seems outward bound is for older kids or youngsters?  Which organisation I contact?  Thanks.

If your target is to train your kids' for independence, you may consider to enroll the "outward bound" camps.  If your kids like outdoor activities, that would be a perfect choice.
