The fault of our star - John Green

I might have recommended it before but this is such a good book about sick teens.

"mesmerising  Especially when his new school has kindles for lending out.  發表於 昨天 22:24"

Kindles for lending out? This must be a very good school!

I always hope that when more people use kindles in HK, our public libraries will have kindle books for loan.

Daydreaming again...

Funny, your chats remind me of a conversation with a dad here 2 years ago.
I eventually found the book, good one. I read myself. Both my girl and I enjoyed it. She went on to read almost all of JW's pre teen books and many of the teen books.

Ha, good memory.  She was much smaller then. I like kindle much more than before mainly because of storage. My girl still prefers paper version, but she will read kindle with just as much interest.

The dad was asking for help to find Jacqueline Wilson's The Longest Whale Song, I replied that that book had kindle version and the dad said his daughter would like to read printed books.
And that daddy sounds like the shadeslayer now... or am I imagining things? hee hee!

shadeslayer  Kindle versions never going out of stock.    發表於 3 小時前

Since we wanted him to learn more vocabs at his fingertips, we have asked our son if he wants a kindle.  To our surprise, he who generally loves all kinds of electronic product refused, saying half of the interest of book reading comes from the flipping of the pages and peeking what's inside!

Recently my girl is hooked to Divergent.  She finished two volumes in a couple of days but she could not stop talking about it.  Much more so than Hunger games.  I truly don't understand kids.

The US Battle of the Books seem to have very detailed list broken down by grades.  Worth looking at as well.

我自己曾經沈迷Richard Dawkins.  現在完全不看他的書了。也不會鼓勵孩子從他的眼光看神。

Scat 在阿女學校很受歡迎。

有日行過 page one ,買左本有趣的書:

There is a question, "why do children have to listen to adults?" Or something like that. And other good questions answered.

From Amazon:

In the spirit of Schott’s Miscellany, The Magic of Reality, and The Dangerous Book for Boys comes Big Questions from Little People—a smart, illuminating, essential, and utterly delightful handbook for perplexed parents and their curious children. Author Gemma Elwin Harris has lovingly compiled weighty questions from precocious grade school children—queries that have long dumbfounded even intelligent adults—and she’s gathered together a notable crew of scientists, specialists, philosophers, and writers to answer them. Authors Mary Roach and Phillip Pullman, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, chef Gordon Ramsay, adventurist Bear Gryllis, and linguist Noam Chomsky are among the top experts responding to the Big Questions from Little People, (“Do animals have feelings?”, “Why can’t I tickle myself?”, “Who is God?”) with well-known comedians, columnists, and raconteurs offering hilarious alternative answers. Miles above your average general knowledge and trivia collections, this charming compendium is a book fans of the E.H. Gombrich classic, A Little History of the World, will adore.

Every year, the 'Battle of the Book' will select 20 books for secondary for competition.  The books selected are usually very gook.  You may visit their website.  The book list for 2013-14 has just released.

Thanks mesmerising.  The Dragon Slippers sounds interesting.  I saw a new series (looks like a new series) called Conspiracy 365.  Did not get a chance to flip though them.
