Because the nightime lenses are more effective than daytime lenses in terms of controlling the growth of shortsight.  When a child has grown to a certain age when he/she could handle the lenses (i.e. level of hygiene), and when shortsights' growth is less substantial, then switching to daytime lenses is an alternative to nightime lenses.  Again this is just an option not a must, but in terms of hygiene, daytime ones are less harmful.  This is what I understood from my optician and from what I have observed.

身邊有D 朋友都比仔女去試，我曾經都有考慮過，但始終係對眼，盲左點算 所以無去試

為左唔好令近視加深，我反而多留意日常細節，要有足夠眼部休息，光線一定要充足，或係睇書時姿勢都好重要， 要小朋友時時留意

Definitely better.  So switch to day time lenses when the kid is old enough take care of the lenses themselves.

Then how you help your girl to keep at <400 after P3? When children reaches puberty, it's easy to get increased quickly. How you can stablise that?

My girl 100 when P1, 200 at P2 and 300 at P3.  I had considered the night lenses but my friend pointed out that if anything happened, it would be more serious than ordinary contact lenses because, in general,:
- kids are not that clean
- kids rub their eyes at night
- when wearing those lenses, kids' eyes are closed, no oxygen

So I take my chances and my daughter did not get those lenses.

She's now 12, stabilised at slightly less than 400 and I am so glad.

但有些研究指出，近視度數太深（600度以上），
有青光眼等其他眼疾的機會亦會高好多！
所以在沒有其他更好的方法去減慢度數加深的情況下，
（已試過滴眼藥水及配矯視眼鏡片，但情況未見改善）
亦只好一試
我小朋友一年加百幾度，而我朋友個女一年加二百幾度，
計一計如二、三年級開始有一百度近視，相信初中已過千度！
但每人情況不同，近視可能和遺傳等原因有關，所以惟有小心D配戴啦！

我穹願佢千度近視，都不想佢盲

If it might hurt the eyes, I would prefer having more short sight. I had short sight since 7 years old and increased quickly. Now I have over 800 degree. I dare not to do anything to help even I almost did!
Wearing glasses is still better than having some other eye problems in my mind.
