Hi Twosonsma,

I had only mentioned about the IB curriculum, you are right KGV also provides the (I)GCSE course up to Year 11 where they finish their external exams! After Year 11, the IB course is available however I had heard from some parents that students are allowed to pursue A-Level but they have to find other tutors because the current ones are more faimiliar with IB...this is only a piece of information which I intend to provide some ideology regarding the examination structure in KGV!

I thought KGV provide IGCSE course and then upto Year 12, children can choose either IGCSE or IB. Am I right?

I am the parent of a current KGV pupil. Both my child studied at ESF primary schools which allowed transition to KGV a priority. There are both advantages and disadvantages of the school...

Advantages:
-Academically Excellent
-Good Conduct
-Strong bonding between students
-Traditional house system
-Good environment for studies

Disadvantages:
- The mistake of appointing the new head of chinese was a mess
- Only the IB curriculum is available

Both my child left KGV and are going to pursue their education in the UK. Despite both the advantages and disadvantages, KGV is a good school but I advice you to apply for other ESF schools such as Island School! My friend has a daughter in Yew Chung Intl. School and applied for the school, only a 'VERY' long waiting list was offered due to the 'priority' of intake of ESF primary students...nevertheless I think you can give it a shot :)

My son switched to Grade 7 after he finished P.6. My daughter switched to Grade 8 after she finished F.1.
If is not difficult as you think if you queue for a place at an early time.

if you consider races, i.e. Indian, etc. then better not to consider international schools.   All international schools are full of people of different races.  Some of the Indian students are extremely bright.

Hi, ema,

When you say "difficult to switch", do you mean "difficult to adapt to school life at KGV", or you mean "difficult to get into KGV"?

If it is the latter, here is some information from the ESF website.  The only school that still has Y7 spaces available is Discovery Bay College.

"Parents have been informing ESF Centre and schools of their intentions for the next academic year, following the recent request for payment of advance fees to secure students’ places. This information is very useful for schools as they are able to arrange interviews at an early stage to fill any places released.

其實一向都好多 LS 學生成功轉入各間國際學校
要 YEAR 7  入 ESF 的確係難 D，因為 ESF 自己都要先安頓自己小學的學生，校網問題，要安排學位比學生
如果 YEAR 8  以上，年年都有人走，高峰期係 YEAR 9，有好多去外國讀 HIGH SCHOOL，係 LS 生找 IS 位的黃金機會

我的建議，有心就先 apply，得就當中獎，唔得又 nothing to lose
係難，因為問題係真係冇位，不過唔試過又唔可以話一定唔得
國際學校，一般 year 9  和 10 會有一批因走去外國讀高中，到時可以再試
