大學選科及揀選職業

你們的子女是如何揀選及决定在大學讀甚麼科目?  或怎樣揀選將來想做的職業或行業?  個女問我點揀. 我叫佢揀D佢鐘意的科目去讀.  但佢話唔知點揀.  想返轉頭我自已N年前亦都係亂咁揀一科讀.  大家有無建議應点做?  謝謝!

For the purpose of developing his full potential, if you can afford, you may encourage him to study in a US college where he would have the freedom to explore and focus on the subjects he is interested the most.

Economic is a good subject, you may aware most top Economic Schools need Maths HL or GCE AL Further Maths.

兒子希望大學讀econ，甚至做學者，不過最大志向係流行音樂。天南地北!由得佢自由發揮。

Your observations are valid to my son's case.
He is G11 and his final exam should meet expectation, first choice still medicine, second may be BBA - Law or Law. LSE Economics as backup plan.

I am glad that we share the same view. There is no problem for your kid to have diversified interests at this stage. Before Grade 11, my son had very strong performance in science subjects. As a parent, I did hope that he would consider medicine in his study (although I did not mention my hope to him). Although he took Physics in Grade 11, he took another 2 humanity subjects - i.e. Economics and History. He managed to obtain A at the end of the school year. At the time of making his applications to college (in Grade 12), he told me that his interest was in history and philosophy. I did not interfere with him his choice but I explained to him that law is quite similar to history and philosophy and he might consider law in his application. At the end of the day, he chose to study law.

His public examination result was high enough to study medicine but I felt relieved that I did not press him to take medicine. If his interest was not in medicine, he could not do the subject well in college.

另一做法是，如果1st degree 入唔到最理想的學系，還可在2nd degree 入讀。
成功例子：高永文醫生的訪問透露，他兒子在港大bio畢業，然後入港大醫科。

That's exactly what I am planning now. Touch wood, my son knows his interests, the problem is quite diversify interests even after shadowing.
His view is following the exam results or PG, he is quite comfortable to both streams.

If you can afford your kids to take a second degree, just let them to explore their interests. They are still young when they finish the first degree. If they have already identify their interests, then try your best to support them and do not interfere their interests.

係香港讀書的話，大學生就算發覺選錯科都好少轉科/學系；
一來怕浪費時候同金錢、又怕加重父母負擔、親朋戚友嘅過度關心；
其次係香港嘅大學要攪轉科/系/學校嘅關卡重重；
再者身邊同學會善意鼓勵你堅持一下；
到轉眼間已經畢業，要重新開始變得更難；
如果本科係修專業資格相關的話，
＂好彩＂畢業前/後有offer, 就要勉為其難入行.

當然有人做下做下都覺得賺錢養家，
有收入、有地位； 而慢慢＂接受現實＂。

但有啲如果係同本身性格相違，返工似打仗，滿足感缺缺；
最後挨幾年都係要轉行。



同北美唔同，香港嘅大學offer 只得一個，
選擇只有：接受 與否；
其實用一年時間去修讀有機會插班入心儀學科，並有成功例子嘅副學士課程都可以係一個好選擇

個人見解是

選科對入讀某大學的某些學科，是有必然性的取向

但對於一些仍未確立自己真正熱愛某學科的同學而言（意旨某類professional ），卻沒有一個必然的影響性存在。

有些同學仍未找出要走的路時，就會選擇努力讀好 core 外，挑選自己真正有興趣又有信心把握的去讀。

讓孩子早點認定方向是好事，家長亦是責無旁貸的需要輔助孩子。

去同多啲唔同行業嘅人交流下，
去做下義工、兼職；
睇下自己唔適合乜嘢工種。

而家都多咗好多機構攪 job shadowing 俾年青人見識下。

其實,只讀工程系(DEGREE), 是不夠上管理.   最好加多個MBA 或者 BA 既MASTER.

個人覺得CS,CE 無話乜邊種闊D.  我係女仔選CS 是因為唔想讀埋電子既選修科.  我老公係CE ,入到U,大家選修既科好多都OVERLAP (只限CU 來說) . 將來找工作.. 分別不大. 視孚個人'ability'/興趣.

你囡囡14歲,將來想有更多選擇. 最好讀MATHS,PHY, (334),我不太清楚.. XDDD

如果無估錯cs係computer science，ce係computer engineering
純ce係香港真係無乜出路，因為學既野深得黎係留係香港做野唔會點應用到所學既野，最近有呢類專業需求都應該係台灣以及內地
有幾深？聽聞你屋企部CD機都要識由頭砌返出黎
298/高登砌機個d高手都未必需要識

讀電腦可以好多野做，大至入大公司大銀行做小至自己出黎寫app寫網站，甚至為不同公司電子化(內部/外部)方面發展，條路真係好闊

建議可以睇下d computer engine可以讀多年拎double degree或者computer science/information management/technology夾埋bussiness administration之類既dual degree，乃大勢所趨，暫時睇都應該重幾吃香

如果讀得好既話，去科大讀個類似既dual degree 質素好，搵工無難度，而且女仔有特別優待，有豐厚獎學金。。。如果純讀電腦/資訊科技唔夾其他野理工應該幾好

My girl is 14.  It's so embarassing as I didn't even know what cs / ce is.  :)  Anyway, I googled and found this http://www.pratt.duke.edu/fullstory  Now at least I have got a little bit of idea what you are talking about.  Could you tell me 是否 cs 比較有 大D 及 好D 發展?

你的小朋友有多大?  HKU,HKUST,CU 的 cs /ce 都不錯.
當中ust 最辛苦. 日日都有好多programming 功課.同學們要自己努力去完成功課,多做多磨練.
cu 都不少.year 2 亦係最辛苦. 通宵捱夜當食生菜.
hku 就不清楚.   cs 個scope 很大, 有security/database/design.....etc.  入到去讀時, 便會知道自己長處是那項.

現今年輕人很少選擇 it. 因為很辛苦. 而且花不少功夫. 亦要keep住個market and trend.
