I hope my kids can have a lively childhood because I hope they can excel in higher educations. Pls don't think I don't believe in drilling. I do too.
Timing is the key to me. Starting too early has higher risk of burning out or get sick of studying. Plus, thinking back.. I forgot what I learnt in primary school totally... does it really matter to know that much or do that fast for a small kid? How can a kid be creative and imagine silly stuff if they don't have enough sleep and spent all their time doing structured homework?
Actually, I am telling this to myself. Once in a while, I feel lost when comparing my kids to other super kids of same age ....
From my understanding, HKUGA is getting better and better. In terms of school work, it is actually more demanding than before but still very very reasonable.
I have been followings this school quite some time as both my kids are now studying there. It seems that the major disappointment from past parents was the school's decision not go IB direction. I personally dislike this IB idea as it seems to be a waste of resources for the sake of getting a name only.
Again, it really depends on the priority of the parents. If one wants a kid to work double hard and to drill on homework many hours a day to excel in hard skills, HKUGA is not for them. If want to give a cheerful and happy time to the kids, HKUGA is very nice. Yet, too many parents want both and ended up unhappy either way.
"港小", do you mean HKUGA? My son is now studying here in P.1. In these few months, he develops a good reading habit which has never been in kinder and he even able to pronounce the words he doesn't know. The synthetic phonics being taught is quite effective. I love the moral education as well. I know I have make the right choice.
