上星期六去了救恩小學開放日，真的覺得救恩是一間很好的小學，遇見的每一個學生，都很開心，又喜歡閱讀，和校長也能打成一片。

很想知道救恩有沒有入讀小一前的parent orientation?不知要為小朋預備什麼基本知識？如看time table, 時鐘之類？

我十分同意belle的講法，除非你孩子正在某一小學入讀，否則你永遠無法清楚了解其小學運作。
我兒子正在讀RC二年級，功課大部份在校完成，無補習，但重要的是每天( 或至少每星期) 溫習一下己教的東西，而所花只不過一至兩小時。兒子上學很開心，亦自覺要溫習。英文教快半學期，似乎同學們都可以掌握，去年小一四班共一百三十人左右，有三位同學要留級。代表大部份同學都可應乎英文快半年的學習。
老師對成績較弱的學生常說不灰心，下次努力等鼓勵字句。
我同意傳統教學真的較納悶，但絕不代表埋沒學生創意。數學，作文，視覺藝術等科目全完是學生可讓發揮創意。
其實我覺得無絕對的活動教學和傳統教學，有些科目是需要用專心，坐定定去教，有些科目則可用較活潑的方式去表達。不過我有時會奇怪為什麼活動教學只限於初小，高小返回傳統？為的是應乎呈分試吧，那麼小朋友又要適應。我認識有些家長安排子女讀活動教學的學校，又怕學校小功課而耍子女外出學習額外課程，何苦？香港的教育的確令人咋舌，如果要子女真正享受學習，便應選不需考本地文憑試的 I B課程。

I took this action before and chose RC for my kid.

Now, I can tell you that I am so proud to make this desicion.

This is why you need to observe the kids there! Watch them and see how they behave walking outside of the schools. This is a due diligence that I will do to select a school for my kid!

If you go to such 谷 primary school, parents should be prepared to "assist" your children for his homework, test and exam diligently.

This the the major dilemma. One hand 活動教學happy school life. Less dictation and memorization but no secondary school need to fight for a place in secondary school.

On the other hand 高主教 a feeder school but very 谷

After going through all this primary school application stuff, don't u think it's better to play safe for secondary school?  St Paul's Secondary accepts 80% from its feeder primary school, this is the main reason I chose this school for my girl finally 2 yrs ago.....

Such important questions you have raised. It's really hard to decide. Shall I trust my own judgement or what most other people say (may be they are right,may be they are wrong)?

I feel I do not trust Kau Yan enough. Really dilemma.

Yes, it is really hard to decide which school to choose.  For myself, I keep on asking myself, what is my children's need?  As a parent, can I trust the school will help my children flourish both academically and emotionally?  Am I comfortable to put my children in their hands?  Can I co-orporate well with the school in terms of their way of teaching and workload? do I agree with their value system? In times of difficulty, can the school and parent work together to help the children?

I would say Kau Yan is quite balanced and positive in the above aspects.  It is a pity that not all schools are so transparent, and it is really hard to judge when there is not enough information.

Hi Chriz, we have similar dilemma. We are Catholics and would prefer Catholic schools (not necessary 聖保祿天主教小學) but most Catholic schools are still very traditional in terms of teaching etc..

We like 救恩 but it is so strong in its religion.

If just for the benefit of the child, I would no doubt choose  救恩...I also choose a Catholic school for 自行分配...let's discuss more and hope we have the answer to ourselves after thorough discussions and considerations.
