It depends on the choice of programs and the ability of the students. If just want an ordinary degree and take any extend module will affect other subjects' exam results. This marginal case or with doubt better take core maths, full stop.
If a kid no matter taking HKDSE or IBDP, his ability upto Grade 10+ at Grade 5, studied algebra and calculus even with Stanford credit in Maths, it doesn't matter.
If you want to take Economics in LSE, or QF in CUHK and HKUST, universities expect you take M1 or M2 with A or A*, Maths HL, 7 are the min admission requirement. Not up to par, also full stop. |
