1. 啟思學生需要參加TSA (全港系統性評估)嗎?
2. 啟思學生的成績表有排名次嗎?
3. 若家姐在此讀書, 弟弟申請是否有優先?
4. 啟思的英文程度如何?

How about the moral education? Does the school focued on helping students understand and appreciate the right values? In what way does the school inculcate students in building good characters and right values?
From your observation, are CPS students disciplined? Since students in CPS have quite a lot of opportunities to speak up and doing group work in class. Do you think students are well behaved and seif-disciplined under the 'free' learning environment?

My daughter has also got offer from 禮賢, which is also a very good school and their moral education is quite strong. However, it is a very traditional school which is running the local curriculum and they are using the local textbooks in all subjects. Both CPS and 禮賢 are more focused in Chinese, but if I choose 禮賢, I can save some extra money for my daughter to have some tutorial classes in English as their tuition fee is around $3000 which is cheaper than the tuition fee of CPS.

Ans: I cannot compare the two because I do not know 禮賢.


2.  How about the connection? In CPS, students have no exam in P1 to P4, their learning style and the school curriculum are different from the local primary schools. Can students capable to adapt the local curriculum when they are promoted to the local secondary school after 6 years?

Ans: No exam, but they have short or unit quiz to consolidate the learning in Maths and Chinese after every unit. I like this as well. In the begining, I have worries, but now, I found this is good to my daughter.

3. Some parents said that if you choose CPS for your child, you need to send him/her to study overseas in the future as CPS is running the IB curriculum which is difficult to connect with the local stream. Is that ture?

Ans: I am not planning to send my child to overseas studies, at least at secondary school level as I believe in close bonding with my daughter at her developmental stage. Since she is P1, I am still observing, not sure what school will best benefit her in secondary school. From my son's experience, it's usually up to P3 or P4 you will know the learning potentals of the children.

4. I am glad to know that the Chinese and Maths curriculum and the homework designed are good. How about the teachers' teaching? Is the teaching interactive?

Ans: As far as I know, Chinese and Maths teaching are interactive. My daughter's feedback is good.

5. How long does your child need to spend on the homework everyday?

I am a working mum. I decide not to hire any tutor as my daughter's learning pattern need individual attention. I taught her myself. I design the follow up home work based on Maths and Chinese curriculum and the grandmother and my home helper will faciltiate her to complete the work all by herself. For English, I focused on reading and phonic, and sight words. Time to complete homework depends. Sometimes she complete the work at school, sometimes needs more, 20m-1hour, all depends.

I will check her homework after my return. I can handle the homework, it's managable, and within reasonbable level of children's cognitive level, meaningful homework.

Ans:
Chinese lovely, Very Good: 1) It is not using local text book, where mostly written based on Cantonese grammar-really bad!! 2) The contents are lovely, Mandarin based, the children like them very much as the contents are very children-centred, match with CD and beautiful mandarin accent. 3) The homework design is theoretically based, with step by step learning,  and meeting children's developmental needs. Wonderful curriculum design and homework design!! I love it very much! My child benefits excellently from the curriculum deisgn. I do think that the curriculum can motivate children to love this language.

Maths
Some parents say the curriculum is less challenging. But for me, I found that really good because they are theoretically based, step by step, and facilitate children to grasp concepts. That's really good design!!

2. Do the teaching in CPS active and creative enough to motivate students' learning?

Ans: Mostly do in Chinese, Maths and Interdisciplinary learning (general studies).

3. As I know, students in CPS need to do quite a lot of projects. Do students really learn alot throughout the process?

Ans: I do think so, in the long run, this kind of learning is benefitial. Yet, the assessment framework is part of my concern in IB model learning. still questioning if this framework is beneficial to the kids...still exploring and observing.

Last year, I gave up CPS for my daughter just because I am in doubt why they cannot change all in English medium of their gerenal studies, then it will have good connection to secondardy school.  

Be honest, if they can provide this subject all in English, I will let my daughter go this school.

Thank you so much for your information and advice. It is really a big problem and concern if there is a gap in reaching the English requirment of CSS.
Besides the English curriculum, I would also like to know more about the Chinese and Maths curriculum and the teaching in CPS.

For me, I don't want my daughter to study at traditional primary school as I'm afraid too much mechanical homework and exam will demotivate her creativity and the motivation in learning. I hope your comments and advice can help me decide if CPS is a good choice for my daughter. Thank you!

you may need to support the english learning yourself.

CPS is using Chinese, difficult to connect the "high English language expectations" of CSS IB curriculum, CSSIB curriculum should be near "native" in writing and verbal English can meet their IB English language requirements.

I don't understand why CPS not changing their english language standard. There is a real gap beween CPS and CSS in English requirements.....

However, the school encourage readings and this is a good practice, but not enough to meet the CSS requirements. If you are hoping for CSS, the english training at CPS is having a real gap to reach the requirements of CSS.  Almost near "native" english level in writing and verbal if you be accepted by CSS...


You should be very careful about how to interprete "Chinese IB" curriculum and "English IB curriculum", where the schools sometimes always trying to avoid to discuss the gaps... Why avoidance?

Hello! My daughter is going to study at CPS this coming Sept. As I still

have some worries, I would like to ask some questions about the school.

1. As I know there are no examinations for P1 to P4 students in CPS but students need to take the exam in P5 and P6. Will students feel too free at the beginning and than feel lots of pressure and difficult to adjust the changes in P5 and P6?

2. The learning and teaching style in CPS is quite different from the other tranditional Primary School, will students find it difficult to adapt when they are promoted to the traditional Secondary School in the future?

3. Many parents pointed out that the Chinese, Maths and GS curriculum in the school are excellent. How about the English curriculum? Can students maintain good English standard at the school?

Sorry to ask so many questions. Hope to get more information to release my worries!

I agree with what BallBallmama said.

As regards to the concern on students' competition, CPS doesn't recommand such behaviour.  Teachers will advise students not to do comparision upon receiving test/ exam results.  In fact, the weak students are constantly assisted/ accepted (for better peer support).  That what CPS says "helping others at all time".

Besides, there is 'angel program' for new comers.  One student would be assigned as 'angel' to accompany a new comer so that he/ she can cope well with new environment.

多謝你的分享, 看來你們真的很有計劃栽培女兒. 在很多學校, 同學間存有不少競爭.  但啟思在這方面會否較少? 同學間的關係也較和諧, 對嗎?  雖然啟思不是國際學校, 但英文環境的塑造是否做得不錯?  很多私校的數學科及科學科已轉用英文教了, 你知道為何啟思仍用中文教呢? 抱歉真的很多問題.

I can tell my daughter's case only.  She is competent with her study all along & thus can cope well with her secondary school life right now.  She is a disciplined & confident girl.

There is no ranking in CPS all along.  But you would be informed for your kid's banding when reaching P5 & P6.

Every time before test/ exam/ TSA, there are revision sessions so that the students can well prepare themselves.

Some sharing on my case:
1.  Watch English TV program as far as possible
2.  Let the child to do most tasks on her own, i.e. take up own responsibility
3.  Develop her reading power by accompanying her till P2 (my girl's case)
4.  Stay home after off duty, so as to offer academic support in case of needed
5.  Offer emotional support & encouragement at all time
6.  Finally, balance diet & sleep early before 9:30pm daily (P1 to P4, before 8:30pm)

My daughter had graduated last year.  She felt extremely happy with her primary school life & was able cope well with the load.  Now she would go back to primary school whenever she has spare time.  She likes chatting with the teachers.
