Hi,
For those victoria kg students, will you take VSA as a backup for primary school? What's the pros and cons for the consideration

1). How easy or difficult to get VSA if not interview in K2 vict kinder and knock door after lucky draw in K3? I gather from some parents of my kid's friends that there is a long waiting list of Victoria kids whose parents only targetting VSA.  Thus the chance of knock door should not be high, unless your kid surpasses those on the waiting list and at the same time the school accepts your reason of not applying for a place at VSA in the first place.

2). If already accept by VSA in K2 but not paying the reservation fee. How easy or difficult to get to VSA later?  Again, the chance should not be high.  If the school gives you a better chance than others who have paid the reservation fee, the school would be unfair to them.

3) What's the school fee of VSA current and next year?  $77,400 (primary) in the current school year.

4) After P6 in VSA, how easy to get into local famous school like DBS, QC, SPCC etc or only plan for overseas study.  You may wish to get direct answers from the school to understand the actual situation.

5) What should be the strategy in planning for VSA as backup? Is early reservation is really a need or there still lots of seats after lucky draw and no need for rush?  See my reply to your Q1.  In fact any school not being individual parents' first choice are backup ones (e.g. DPS could be a back up only for some parents targetting at SPCC!).  If reservation fee makes the different, the most promising strategy for securing a place at VSA is of course sending your kid to Victoria KG, applying for VSA P1 and paying the reservation fee!

wootaitai, I picked on you to answer the other message because we have some sharings when our girls applied to the same primary last year.  I don't intend to offend you, but just know you will provide true answers.  Sorry if that is offensive to you.  

Anyway, thanks for replying.  I've seen the boy in my same block borrowing toys and books from VK Ho Man Tin and what you said is true (to some extent) in VK Ho Man Tin too.

I feel the same way. The rumor related to VSA is getting very serious. I myself attend / participate many functions organized by the school both from the primary school and Kindergarten. I saw the kids behave very well, polite and pleasant. I met the parents and they are mostly well educated and understand the importance of love and education. I wish I have seen the bad behavior like what other people mentioned and thus I will not send my kid to either kindergarten or the primary.

Personally, I am also a bit concerned about rumours regarding the conduct of VSA students.  My belief however is always that family love and education are key to the formation of one's basic character.  School education and friends round may finetune it in either a positive or negative way.  In the latter case.  For kids which in parents' hearts are more vulnerable to the external environment, it is true that a more disciplined school will be a safer harbour.

I really feel I need to share my opinion. My daughter is studying in K3 Victoria now. She is very happy and loved by the teachers. I feel many people are complaining about the behavior of the students from Victoria. I was wondering what kind of behavior you expected from a 5 year old kid? Acting like a mature adult????

I moved back from United States to Hong Kong and I am very surprised about the parent’s effort putting into their kids. They send the kids to so many tutorial classes for different subjects including maths, English, mandarin, to name just a few.

Do they ever ask the kids what they want? I think respect and understand the kids are the priority. I do think people from foreign countries are more flexible and effective in taking care or responding to changes.

I believe the Education system might play a role in it.

wootaitai, just want to ask you whether Victoria Kinder does provide enough 'facilities, toys and supplies' as said.  I went to HK Central Library and can meet one or 2 classes of Victorian students there almost every week.  They are occupying almost all the seats in the junior English corner.  Do they let children have the library lesson because they don't have to buy so many books?
For those who are thinking about VSA, you may want to check how the children behaved in and outside school.  I meet some of them in the Speech Festival this year.  The only conclusion is I won't let my kids study there taking account the high tuition fee, the poor Putonghua standard (some of their parents even talked to each other in Putonghua) and the behaviour of their students in the public.

deposite paying in k3 is reasonable because the school needs to find out around how many parents are really going to send their children to their school, and so they can release the no of seats to other children on the waiting list.
but !! K2尾已收人2個月學費真係除左錢之外，我唸唔到為乜！other through-train 名校如St paul's kindergarden 會咁做嗎？

Putting the deposit, which I agree is a matter of personal choice and judgment aside, I think the fundamental difference (allow me to say) between my and Y2KChild's perceptions of a good school is that I do not put track record as the key consideration in choosing schools, hence my choice of VSA and non-participation in the lucky draw which for reason of my district will very likely offer my kid with such a good school with good track record.  

Anyway, just wish to share with parents here in an objective manner, and don't mean to arouse offensive debates.

I agree that paying a deposit is fair and reasonable to prevent abuse.  The quantum of deposit differs from one school to another.  VSA has the highest amount of deposit payable by parents as far as I know (the 2nd highest among the schools we have applied for is only 1/3 as much as VSA's). Paying such a big amount for a secured place or not is a matter of opinion, though it's a bit on the high side, in my opinion.

I think its a fair practice for VSA to request deposit upfront. Otherwise too many entrants will just take the seat for granted and abuse it.

我的兒子正在Victoria讀K3，整體來說，學費不算便宜，不過在小兒學習過程看不到很高的商業味道，總之他在學校學得開心，又真的學到有用的東西。至於VSA，當初他們給小兒學位時，我也覺得萬多元的留位費實在太高，加上小兒比較喜歡紀律性較高的學校，結果我們婉拒了。我們在想，單是被沒收的留位費，相信已有數十萬元，因為不少家長都會嘗試考外面的學校，只把VSA當成後備，這些學校如果取錄，家長就會放棄VSA個位。

即使不計任何學術成績，我個人來說從來不喜歡 Victory 這個辨學團體，因為覺得太 commercial，凡事都是向 $ 看，目標似乎是錢而不是辨教育。

My son is a K3 student, wanna to share with you our experience this year.....   VSA arrranged interviews for its kindergarten students in May/June when my son was still in K2.   Once offer is given,  a 2-month school fee deposit (non-refundable if you never enter VSA but refundable with 1-month notice after you enter VSA) needs to be paid in July (still in K2).   Another month school fee i.e. Sept school fee (non-refundable) needs to be paid in June the next year (in K3 before the annoucement of lucky draw result).   All in all, using VSAas a backup (before annoucement of lucky draw results) got to pay 3 months VSA school fee.
