Talking about famous is it also depends on where you live too?  My family and relatives mostly live in Kowloon and we find YW, LS and DBS most famous.  I guess people live in HK will find St. Paul etc more famous?  Before my son's application in P1 I even cannot distinguish St. Paul boys, St. Paul Coed and Convent etc......although I am sure all these are good schools.  So I guess it is not much meaningful to discuss which is more famous etc?  

I believe it is even more meaningless to say which school has more richer family etc and which is more middle class as this is not based on any factual information.

So our Ex Financial Secretary (Mr. Leung) is from YW so can we say YW is famous also for training leaders?  I know this is probably a bad example........

又講講, 我以前聽過陶傑在電台節目講過, 講一些香港家長對一些沒有英文名稱, 只有英文譯名的名校, 如協恩 (Heep Yunn), 華仁 (Wah Yan), 英華 (Ying Wa)....etc 有著奇怪/騎呢的標籤效應 !!

陶傑講聽過有家長總覺得這些學校 "中國味" 感覺重一點, 唔夠西化, 認定英文會弱一點, 但相對於中文方面, 又會認為這些學校的中文能力強一點, 陶傑 comment 這些家長古怪的標籤效應, 真的摸不著頭腦, 莫明其妙, 並諷刺那些香港家長沒有國際視野, 莫非一定要改個英文名才會西化 D ?? 他相信這些家長應該沒有受過協恩,華仁,英華的優質教育, 如果給幾十年前從歐洲漂洋過海來創辦這些學校的洋神父/洋牧師聽到, 肯定笑到摸不著頭腦

雖然我認為才子的說話有點過激, 但亦認同他的觀點, 因我在 HK Discuss/ BK 都曾經見過有家長留言.....說什麼什麼認為瑪利諾的中文程度一定弱過協恩...... 香港華仁的英文程度一定弱過聖約瑟......真奇怪

我都很認同陶傑, 如果你問家長對於兩間學校, 那一間學校名氣認受性高一點, 每人有各自的 preference,  持不同意見絕對合理, 但講到科目的深淺程度, 你沒有同樣讀過兩間學校, 怎知道呢? 心諗, 唔通你的仔/女讀過唒兩間學校 ?

放心喇.....名氣上, St. Paul's 和 Ying Wa 都是好學校

Ying Wa -

A much more relaxing learning environment, less competitive, with great extra- curriculum. Boys are polite,yet more in the middle class. Boys who love sports will certainly fit in well.


St. Paul's -

Much more pressure. Huge work load with lots of homework and tests. Boys are mostly competitive, well-off and have a really good financial background. Boys who are aggressive and more all-rounded will fit in better.

YW seems to like boys who are more active and all rounded, St Paul Boy seems to prefer boys who are quieter and can "sit still", my guess is based on my observation and friends' kids acceptance by these 2 schools

呢2年近放榜都會咁傳架，我就未必會信。間間學校都有機會轉校長，的人夠講左CKY幾年啦。依家未發生，如果真係發生左就要想清楚。前年已經傳啦，今年咪叫做靜好多，可能的家長心水清知乜事掛。

咁其他學校p3作文應該係寫幾多字? 我記得我以前讀書好似中學至開始有作文.

我做個一些research, 你試下click 2個網，睇一睇呢幾年2間學校學生的獎項，你會多的idea YW呢幾年收左的乜野學生。有時淨係聽校名唔作得準。我發現YW呢2年學生拎果的獎很有代表性。講真，學校質素主要計幾樣野-

1. 教學理念、方向: 係活動主導一些定係傳統一些; 我幾肯定YW的活動真係好多，除非你個仔真係好靜好靜，如果唔係，佢會好開心。好多唔同既posts, 差唔多人人有份，連班長都輪住做。SPC係比較傳統的，睇下你buy邊樣。我識有的朋友，佢地住HK, 堅決唔過海，咁就揀SPC啦! 另外，YW功課量好合理，但程度高，我問個friend借過的功課同作業睇。佢地小一果的同學依家以經用英文寫緊60-80字既journal。中文全PTH教授，的作業同LS對過黎睇，不相伯仲。不過，我的朋友話YW多活動，家長要投入的，用係學校的時間會多的。

2.就係間學校收緊咩學生，呢樣野好緊要。學生水準高，好自然間學校氣氛都唔同。要了解近年收生質素，一定要睇埋學生課外活動。我試過數過呢2年幾間學校校際朗誦節情況。YW今年的獎差唔多多過舊年40%，咁你就會知道佢地的學生大約係點。同DBS,LS的數量好接近，甚至超過。你都可以下數下，會有多的資料比你make decision。唔單止speech festival, 係音樂同埋其他aspects都係咁。

2間都好學校，真係要睇你想要乜，我自己住Kowloon，又buyYW果套，加上我做左好多資料搜集，我自己會揀YW。我自己覺得，是但一間都唔會錯得去邊，分析完睇下自己感覺邊間良好的，就揀果間啦。

P.S. 我覺得一定要睇埋校長，唔係好似Logo果個，咁就慘啦。呢2間校長都好OK。

We included Ying Wa in our list of applied schools not just because of Principal Lam, but also because of the curriculum, discipline of the boys as observed by us personally, and the way students are motivated so that they have a keen interest to learn.

A lot of people have addressed to St Paul's Boys in other threads.  Some of them even indicated that its academic results are deteriorating.  I have not done a thorough research on this issue, so I am just quoting what other people have said.  (Of course, some parents advocate St Paul's Boys as well.)

唔好意思, 因為我唔係經常可以上到網, 所以而家先回覆大家. 多謝各位的寶貴意見.
我都知其實兩間都係好學校, 所以各有fans.
其實, St Paul Boy 收咗我仔仔, Ying Wa就等緊result, 所以想做定D research. 兩間我都好鍾意, 萬一Ying Wa ok咗, 真係好怕做錯決定
