Hi Mattmame and Sabb,
My child is studying there now, it's been pver a year, I would say, it's so far so good. My child likes it there. Following is a summary of my comments:
1. Environment
People are generally friendly there, kids are well behaved, the majority is Korean, with some kids from other countries. Most kids use English as a second language there, so you do not expect kids speak perfect English the first few years when they are there, but I do hear grown up kids speak very good English with good accent as well. Parents are friendly and easy going. We had BBQ several times with the other parents and kids during holidays, and many activities will allow you to interact with other parents. Teachers are gnerally very kind as well.
2. English standard. Again, since most kids use English as a second language and they are from different countries, like Taiwan, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Europe, Singapore, Philippines, etc. with a majority using English as a second language, I think you could not compare it with most famous international schools, but kids gradually pick up English. My child did not speak much English when started there, but now is able to speak quite fluently with many vocabularies picked up.
Particularly, I personally like the Asian culture there, the principal emphasized that he did not intend to turn the kids there to be westerners, but to preserve their own culture, so I feel comfortable having my child studying there.
3. Acadamic standard.
This is a pretty "new school" with about 10+ years history, they do not have proven track record of much success in the English section to place kids in world famous uni in the past, but their Korean section has been successfully placing kids into selective uni in Korea, for the English section, the past two years, they have placed kids into some high rank uni in Canada and Britain, so I believe gradually they will do better.
4. Chinese level
They have 4 chinese classes per week and use Singapore syllabus. It's not easy at all, as they have class for Chinese and non-chinese, they have differenet syllabus, but I think for an international school, you don't expect a whole lot from them for Chinese education, you will definitely give extra tutorials to your kid.
5. Overall, I would say, it's quite good. You can't compare it with ESF or other even higher ranked international schools.
6. Homework, starting from Grade 1, they will have some homework for kids, but most of the work would be done in class, so I am constantly amazed by how much my child learns everyday from school when i got back the worksheet from school. My child is now able to read English books, write English, and speak quite well.
7. Kids' behavior are mostly very well. Their mothers would attend all the activities, and take good care of their kids, they mostly stay home.
I would say, if you are looking for a school with less homework, and more quality time with kids and still the English level is well maintained, you may consider this an option, however, if you are targeting your kid into the first-class uni and become very good at grades, you may want to find other schools. I would not say it's a superb school, but I generally like it in most of the aspects.
Hope this helps. |
