Agree! My boy got KV AM offer today. His interview was spoken in English and told them his name in Chinese only. My hubby is a native speaker. We hope he can learn Chinese too. We love Chinese tea!!
Once go schooling (say KV), I believe kids should be easily learning Cantones as if that kinder is Chinese-oriented.
But I do appreciate some kinders consider parents with options of language to be used at interview.... like St Cat, Creative (Oxford Rd), .....
Last week, I was quite sicked about a teacher at nearby 村校 did not say even one Eng word.... and stopped me to translate her questions in Eng.... then she asked my gal in Cantonese... but my gal could only respond her in Eng.....
I feel the teacher was not nice as without any smile and no encouraging tone at all..... as my gal indeed could perform well with all requests and questions correctly but with all answers in Eng.....
If you feel the kinder is not sincere about the language issue, then just skip it......otherwise, the kid may have very bad feeling esp at the beginning of K1.
我個仔情況一樣! IN時係1個老師問家長,同時1個老師同小朋友玩&問小朋友問題,我根本無可能翻譯. I told teachers that my son can't speak cantonese very well, one of teacher said "will you teach him more in cantonese before he studies K1?" then they ignored and started the interview.
KV puts emphasis in chinese, so I didn't ask they if they can interview my son in english. when they asked me the above question, they seem don't like my kid doesn't speak cantonese well! so I finally didn't ask if they can interview in english!!!
