CTY and EPGY

I emailed them last Friday but no reply so far.

My friend did send an email to enquire about this.  They say there's no need to prepare etc etc.  So no past paper, only a sample paper as shown in their website.

My kid found it very difficult - the logic is they will test the kids 1 to 2 grades higher in order to distinguish who are the top say 5%.  Otherwise a lot of kids will score close to full marks.

Therefore even though she made a lot of mistakes, she eventually obtained the scores required.

I am struggling whether to let her attend the course in HK or US campus.  Course fees are the same except of course you have to pay for the flight if going to the States.  That should be a great opportunity for a kid to broaden his/her exposure.  Um........

I heard that once you register for the SCAT test, you could download the past papers.  Is that true?

Just got the email from Johns Hopkins.  They will arrange a special test in HK (apparently cheaper).  Pls see the following link for details:

My son sent for the SCAT early this year.  His score is good enough for CTY Maths course but not for languages.  

I guess if you are happy with EPGY, it is not a must to move to CTY.  From what I understand, both courses are great!

How about the English test? Why they have to test Ensligh for math/science courses? I understand that the children need to be proficient in English to take the CTY courses, but the English test is pretty challenging. Do you know if they count the English to result serious for acceptance ?

Thank you for your information.

I'm interested in both online and summer programs for my son. But guess he might not be able to join the summer program as he has to go for football camp every summer.

For the demo test, I just had my son trying it. He got 7/10 for the English part and 8/10 for the Math part (in fact, he was just careless and should be getting 10/10 if he paid enough attention). As per the website, it says the real test will be more challenging. Do you think my son can still pass the test ?

Can anyone tell me How much will it cost totally for the talent search + SCAT. It seems almost HK$2000 as per their website!? Not sure if I got it wrong? It is quite expensive if so, what if my kid does not pass the test? My son is now 10years old and he's taking Grade 8 EPGY course. I'M interested to 'transfer' him to CTY as many of you said it is good. But I'm afraid it's a waste of time and money if my son does not pass their admission test.

My kid is 13 years old, and he joined the CTY Math program (secondary level) at HKUST this summer.  He enjoyed it very much and planned to join next year too. The instructors and teaching assistants are good, the program contents are intensive but appropriate, and he made some friends with "like" minds as his.
