As far as I understand, the first thing IS are looking for would still be good language (ie. english) skills. On top of that, schools (particularly secondary level) would consider academic, art (visual art and performing art) and sports achievements.

Giftedness is seldom in the picture, although most IS do have special arrangements for gifted children. On the other hand, IS also have arrangements for children with special needs. So I guess giftedness might not necessarily put you in a better position when applying.

Depends on at what level you are entering IS. If you are talking about early years, like kindergarten or primary school level, the key area they look at is his/her English proficiency (particularly spoken English) during the interview. High IQ or excellence in sports/music/art isn't part of the assessment criteria for most IS.
