I would say A1 is technically easier.
But if a student has good fingers and good control ... A4 is easy once you understand the technique and the phrasing and patterns.
HOWEVER, as a piano teacher, I am VERY against ABRSM's choice this time for Grade 7 to have a Prelude and Fugue cut apart... and just play the Prelude for List A. It's VERY VERY wrong.
I am not allowing my students to play A4 by itself, if they have to learn it, it has to go with the Fugue. I don't care what the board says.
Prelude and Fugues are a PAIR. LIke shoes.... can't be without one another. I think the board is very wrong in posing this as a model for our students. |
