I told my son to "triple" check his work with his finger point to the word and check. I guess this helps a bit but of course careless mistake is unavoidable .... we just need to accept.

May I know what mistakes your son made?

Below is just my sharing:-
English:
I always pretend that I do not know how to spell the words and ask him to teach me. We practice no matter where, even watching TV or shopping.
Also, I always play with him with words that have similar pronounciation for him to identify and let him correct me (eg, there, their) and explain to him the sentence meaning.

Of course, before dictation, we will have "role play", he has to physically write the words down as I believe this will avoid careless mistake.

For Chinese, what i believe is practices makes perfect... he has to write till the word is correct...

My son was doing better in the second term for the exam.

語文 100
Chinese Dictation 50
Chinese Composition 80

You mentioned 聆聽 is 20%. Do you mean the Oral/Listening on the report card? Do you know the percentage of "Writing"?

I am always wondering the impact of these two parts on the overal grade cos they NEVER return us the score of these two part .. a mystery to me.

中文就明顯退步左, 果日都同你傾左, 其實我都覺得份卷幾深...在家我都有比d卷比阿仔做, 不過作用不太大...一唔明就打 "交差" , 完全唔諗點做..., 所以我覺得中文反而最難教呢 !

英文就同上次exam 一樣, 都是差唔多, 我都有比d 卷佢做, 佢話無 test 無我比佢果d 咁深...

派咗中文及英文卷，結果正常，呀仔冇話深喎，佢錯嘅都係唔小心果啲，但都預咗啦！

Hi ahpei,

我果日一見完老師就走啦, 都冇去到禮堂睇書....不過落到樓下經過English room, 見到Miss Jessie係度呀!

最好笑一入到門口就見到大大個牌掛著"失物待領", 我都有走埋去睇下, 想睇下大頭蝦有冇唔見既野係度...佢開學到依家已經唔見左好多支鉛筆啦!
