It was the same case last year. I don't think it makes difference. I heard they will interview each applicant, so they must start early to see all, I think.
Last year, I heard they give interview chance to each child, my son was one of them. He was the first in the whole grade, has extra-activities but didn't get any public award. LSC was also the first school he interviewed, he didn't do good neither.
I heard a few successful cases that 全級考第1 or 2 + 奧數拿奬. Since there are not many seats available, you must be very top and has public awards (sports, music,etc) to increase the chance. Otherwise, you must do very well in interview to impress them.
Last year, he was asked to read a chinese passage, do a picture description and answer some questions in Chi/Eng too. Parents went in together and were asked a few questions first like why you pick LSC, what is your expectation of the school, etc.
