Dear wdzhang,

My daughter is in P.2 of St. Clare's and she's happy with her school life there. The home-workload is
reasonable although we find the tests / exam's
intervals are too close / frequent. They have 4
tests and 2 exams per academic year. However, I
reckon it's the school's tradition and it's also their
strategy that the assessment's coverage is
evenly spread out so the girls won't need to squeeze too much at one time. St. Clare's English standard is
high and they are very active in interschool's
competitions in the past 2 years, both academic (like choral speaking in English, Chinese and Putonghua,) and sports (like swimming) which the girls achieved outstanding results. The School's PTA also
participated in the FPTA of the western district
(while Sacred Heart is not) so as to get involved in
more activities with the same peer. And I guess
they get more explosure than years before and this
change is brought by the new principal, Mrs. Wong
who's an ex. Marymount staff. To me, the academic
level of both St. Clare's and Sacred Heart is more or
less equivalent and it's just the mojority's opinion
that Sacred Heart is better since its' more well
known. However, St. Clare's is also a very reputable school and the girls are definitely well disciplined and it's always their style of keeping low profile.
Although the French class at St. Clare's is not
counted as a core subject, they do have dictation
and they offer tutition class for parents to participate which is free of charge. I think it's a pretty good
opportunity for both the girls andanyone who's
interested in learning French andgain more
experience in exploring a foreign language.

Hope the above sharing helps!

Cheers,
Lelia

do not take the French class seriously, 只不過是學校用來自我增值的課外活動而已,並非好似maryknoll, st paul 咁, 認真修科
如果你諗住因為有french 就選 st clare, 你一定會失望.

One more thing, St. Clare's has French class.  It is good to learn French at young age.  If you learn it too late, it is difficult to pronounce some of the sounds.
For those planning to go to Canada,  ...

For those planning to go to Canada, good to learn French as it is one of the official language there.

可是,聼說SH的課程很深,你的女兒讀書開不開心?  SH的課外活動多不多?

My girl is in PM Govt sub. section, so syllabus is set according to education dept. guidelines, similar to other govt subs. schools.
There is an extracurricular lesson every Friday, the others are not mandatory.  But if you are interested, there is a spectrum of activities to choose from.
Apart from the mandatory activities lesson on Friday, my girl did not join others organized by school as she has outside centres for other activities since kindergarten.

My girl is very happy.
Unlike SH am session, the school only include several chapters in each test, and for those chapters being tested on test, it won't be tested again on exam.
Say, for Chinese Language, test 4 chapters and exam only 6 chapters.
Besides, the tests and exams are scheduled on Monday, so one has the weekend to prepare for 2 subjects on Monday, and Tuesday is school holiday for students to prepare the remaining 2 subjects tested on Wednesday.

But the students/their parents are very smart/hardworking, so if you are lazy, most likely get to the bottom of the class.

回覆 #1 wdzhang 的文章

My girl was accepted by both last year and I picked SH pm.
Reasons:
1. I am a full time mum and I prefer my girl to spend more time with me.
2. SH pm uses Mandarin to conduct Chinese Language class in 3 out of 5 classes.
3. There is a younger sister, so better to get in Govt. subs. schools to save the trouble of finding primary school for the younger sister.
4. School fees savings
5. No direct school bus from my home to St. Clare's.

But St. Clare's seems good for working mum, being a whole day english schools.

SH pm is half day chinese schools.
At SH, only English and Science subjects are in English.

I always think that english schools would be easier than chinese schools.  Chinese characters are just too difficult to memorize.
