Any suggestion on how to choose among these schools?
1.  Raimondi College
2.  H.K.University Graduate Association港大同學會
3.  St. Paul's College

All of these are boys schools.  Which one has a higher
academic standard?  If all the schools accepted your kid, which one will you choose?

You are right that we have to choose a school that our
children can do the best, but the problem is: it is not easy
to know which school he can do the best?  How about
their related secondary schools? HKUGA v Raimondi v
St Paul Boys, which one is better?

Just a game to play, if full mark is 10.  How many marks will you give to St Paul co-ed, St Paul Boys, HKUGA,
Raimondi, Wah Yan, St Joseph and DBS, after taking
into account of their own good and bad factors.

Hong Kong is now under transition period that our future or our next generation’s future will certainly be affected.
We can no longer be restricted to our own origin – Hong Kong but to think with global vision.
Many of my friends’ graduated children are now choosing to work in Macau, Singapore, Mainland China or UK.
If they are not proactive enough, they might easily loose grab of chances.  Of course, they experience being an exceptional or different person in their group.
Only their self-confidence might help them to stand up straight and to face new challenges of all levels.
Synergy might occur if we and our children can get alone well with the chosen school.
The point is not which to choose but which one we can do our best.

It is true that students from P.3 onward are required to set a certain target on academic subjects but it never considered to be demanding when comparing with traditional school. Average 3 to 4 pieces of homework a day, 3 times assessment each year, Eng/Chi dictation is taken every twice weeks, around 3 to 4 projects a year and group project instead, no elite class system.... demanding or not? It depends on parent' wish whether they want their children to be more outstanding or score higher on school report. I have never felt hkuga deviates from school mission but I put pressure on myself once a while while I found my son did not perform well on his work.

Well, choose a school has reputation with track record may feel more safe and in line with public opinion because we are trained to be like that. Just like if you are not a person who agrees general suffrage, you are thought to be an odd person. So very agree to 宏媽 that "choose a school that best fit his personality."

Thank you for Charlotte_mom's information

It's good I have asked the right person.  You are the
parent of hkuga.  May I ask which class your kid is in?
Whether you consider you have made the right or the
wrong decision to let your kid to study in this school?
Why?  If you have the chance to choose again now, will
you choose hkuga again out of the 3 schools [hkuga v
Raimondi v St Paul boys]?

It seems that all  the 3 schools have their good factors.
That is why it is difficult to choose.  If you have other

Neither am I a parent of the mentioned school.

I respect anybody who hold different opinion with me.

I respect anybody who has different demand or standard on education.

But I did not say HKUGA is bad or good.

It is also very unfair to me to say that I have judged the school.

I just give my and my colleagues' observation which occur nearly everday. And this observation is the fact.

Despite the above problem, I also think this school has its own strength and good thing like training kids to be more outspoken and to have more confidence. But because I think politeness is more important, so I will not choose this school. That is my point.

So, what I said is only my choice but not any judgement.

Both St Paul's College and HKUGA are DSS schools and their annual fees are HK$38,000 and HK$27,000 respectively.  Their students are usually promoted to their thru train S1 subject to one condition that students must pass all major subjects.  St Paul's College holds both its primary school and secondary school in the same campus.  HKUGA has its primary school in Chaiwan but its secondary school in Wong Chuk Hang.

Raimondi College is an aided secondary school so the school must strictly follow the EDB's policy regarding medium of instruction (teaching language) and places allocation.

I have very close friends with their children in the mentioned three schools respectively.  In fact, only St Paul College is a boys' school since Raimondi is now recuiting girls.

I think St Paul college's students demonstrate the highest academic standard in term of exam results.  Students are being trained up under competitive environment.  They are smart, presentable and always capable of maintaining good public image.

HKUGA is a total different school.  My friend told me that her son's homework is not straight forward even to her standard as a lecturer.  They are trained to use their mind in a criticizing way and be told to judge before believe in all information from text books.

Raimondi is also a very good school.  The primary school will be moved to Wanchai and the secondary school will occupy the whole campus in mid level.

Thank you for 宏媽's detail analysis

I like HKUGA because it is a new concept shcool.  I like
Raimondi because it will have a new school campus next
year and Maths is teaching in English.  I like St Paul Boy's
because of its reputation.  So, I am still collecting other's opinion.  How about their related secondary schools?
Which one is better?  Do you have any idea?  Anyway,
thanks for your analysis.
