Hi, 小女是今年小一新生, 在適應上大致都冇問題, 但她說
      D 老師好嚴 (可能好同以往幼稚園比較).   今日英文科派左
      2 POEMS, 是否每天也要帶回學校 ? 另外, 下星期便要
      上游水堂, 很擔心佢換衫會有問題呀..

Dear P1 mum,

I have some feelings to share about today's class demonstration:

1) I did not expect this was a show in the hall. I expected the real class teaching in a normal school schedule, even if the class teachers and students are not "perfectly" performed because then it will be genuine and real. I was a bit disappointed towards school administration on organizing this kind of "show". I have a great doubt on the "rationale" behind this "show".  What kind of philosophy are conveying behind this "show"?

2) All the games seemed to be "fun".. However, how about those students who sat on the floor and waiting for the teachers being "chosen" because they are  labelling as "good" or "smart"? What is the educational philosophy being conveyed in the games? We are not expecting "perfect" performance of our kids, we need to respect our kids's pace.

3) The real interaction/communication between school and parents are not through "show"s, but through genuine communication where the school is repsected not because of the "show", but because of your firm upholding of your education mission and philosophy, where we respected our children and parents.  My child told me that they were told to behave "good" in the hall. I was really angry about this!! Why our children were put on the "table" and doing this performance. I was not informed of this "show" beforehand!! They should be in the class and attended the normal school schedule.

4) I was really disappointed about the school, where is your philosophy? who you are put in the top priority? publicity? our children's best interest?

5) When I look at the school website, they posted the parents' day picture, most of the pictures are about the new principal, where is the parents? where is the interaction between parents and school teachers? what is the focus of the event? what is the meaning behind the event?

Sorry, I am really angry and disappointed!! Can the school put more focus on educating our children to be a honest, down to the earth person instead of put much effort in publicity and pleasing the public and pleasing the parents with "beautiful" and "perfect" performance and "pictures". Can you put more time on every child, to advocate the value of respect, not only focusing on those who are labelled as "good" and "smart".

You pointed out a very important point that in addition to fluency in English, good teachers are those who can motivate 
the pupils to learn eagerly/proactively in a consistent way.

So far, I can feel that most of the teachers in the school do possess such elements.

My son's class teacher can speak fluent English and I knew that her training is not majoring in English. I believe that the quality of teacher is not only about his/her English proficiency in primary school. The most important quality will be his/her competency to motivate the students to show interest in their learning and understand the needs of the students from their developmental needs.

The overall impression about the teachers' English proficiency is that almost all of them especially English and class teachers are able and willing to speak fluent English.

Hi P1 and senor class parents, need your  contribution in discussion:

My son observed the concern on musical instructment by the music instructors and very interested in choosing Trumpet. I would like he to choose Violin as he has been in the training for few months. Yet he insisted to learn a new one in addition to violin.

Any senior class parents whose children had choosen Trumpet training in TSL, here is my question:

1) P 1 student able to handle the Trumpet? I heard from others who said that usually Trumpet training will start from P3 or P4?

2) How about the quality of instructors in the school?

3) Are the fees reasonable?

4) Trumpet is one of the instructment in school orchestra?

Yes, I know there are a few new teachers joining the school in this academic year.
But I do not even know their names at this moment, let alone their educational background.
So far I have met a few English teachers at school.
Some  are graduated from overseas universities and some are from
local universities.
But I do not see necessarily a direct correlation between good English standard to whether the teachers are graduated from overseas universities or not?
Some of the teachers graduated from overseas are quite fluent in English.
But I have also seen several teachers who are graduated from local 
univeristies but they can 
also speak quite good English.

Will it be too early to make  this judgement?
To be honest, you cannot expect the level of all English teachers to be
on a par with native speakers.

The multi-cultural environment and the exposure at school will be
another favourable factor for our children  to speak/use more English.

The school only encourages the pupils to learn musical instrument, but it is not compulsory.

I think many primary schools in HK will also encourage their pupils to do so, not only TSL.

Hi qq88qq,
Before I'm also very worry about the swimming lesson.
But my girl told me that she can manage to change her
swimsuits herself and everything seems alright for the first
lesson.

Hi Principle,
I know that many new teachers join the school for this
school term, are they mostly from Local U only?
Found the English teacher's English standard is not so
good as expected for teaching in an English Primay
School.

To be very honest, I am not too sure.
The reason is that they are so many different instrumental classes and so many instructors involved.

I would suggest that if you already have certain classes/instructors outside which you are satisfied, please continue with the existing ones.

Unless you are not satisfied with your current ones outside or if there are some new instrumental classes you want to take, you may try the ones provided  by the school.

class today. i don't know which one is suitable for my
daughter since she doesn't encounter such intruments
