virgokaren:
I agree with your previous comments. In general, the quality of Australian education is not bad. Sometimes, like Canada, there are some 'chicken' schools/universities, so must select the schools very carefully. For the top courses (medicine, law) in Aust, it is not easy to get in. All of my friends got in these courses were top students in HK from famous schools (DGS etc). Of course, for some 讀書平平, they can still get into Australian university doing an accounting or computer degree, so people has an impression that it is easy to get in Australian university or the quality is not very high. This is why Australia is also popular for some students who are 讀書平平.
To be honest, if 讀書平平, I think the safest way is to do foundation --- because it guarantees you must get in the university, but of course what course you will be doing is another matter, you can do a cheap course (low mark course) even in a well-known university. I can tell you Year 12 is not easy but it's a growing experience which is worthwhile --- there is not short cut. Some HK people don't want to have difficulties, so most overseas students choose foundation because it guarantees you must have a place in university. I can say to you: no pain, no gain. Even though I was a top student since kindergarten, I've also spent a lot of efforts in my year 12 and my whole family was there to support me. My dad was there to stand by for me, to drive me to the library & to school, my mum was responsible for cooking soups for me. Australian parents are very caring about their children's education, but they are not nervous like HK parents, they are just caring, giving all their supports, to be with their children during the year 12 year, no matter what the results are, if you know what I mean.
For IB, if you are in HK and prepare to send your daughter/son to Australia doing secondary schooling, what is the point of doing IB there? The purpose of doing IB is for you to apply university in other countries, e.g. UK or US. But if you are originated from HK, if you want your daughter/son to go to UK for university, why don't you send her/him to UK doing high school there directly? There is no privilege doing IB in Aust. If you want to get in top courses, it all depends on the merits/excellent results, regardless whether you are doing IB or not. I've some Asian friends doing IB in Australia, but they went to Aust since year 7 and they wanted to study university in US, so they did IB and achieved full marks ! If you really like IB, how about doing IB in HK, then apply university in overseas.
This is just my thoughts, hope it can assist you. |
