Re: 聖公會幼稚園 v 聖心
Hi Cinder!
There are around 10 girls in each class. I don't know the reason(s) but SKH admits more boys than girls each year, around 2 boys : 1 girl. Nonetheless, the ratio of girls and boys may change in K2 as some students would go to SSKG or St Joseph or CCKG.
Yes, SKH emphasises on discipline. My girl said they are asked to raise their hands before answering/ asking Qs, to line up to go to toilets, etc. but not very strict at the beginning of the school year. They allow children to get use to rules.
For the naughty guys, my girl said that one of the teachers would bring the kids to a corner and talked to them. One of the parents said that the teacher had once called her to see whether there was any special thing happened in the family which might make her boy fought in the class. (It happened that the little brother of the boy was sick and mammy had paid less attention to the boy!) My first hand experience was that a boy lost his temper and 掃晒all the kitchen toys on the floor. The teacher quickly went to the kitchen corner and said gentlely to the boy that she was unhappy becasue the children did not teasure the toys. (老師唔開心因為小朋友唔珍惜d玩具). The boy felt sorry when he knew that the teacher was unhappy. Other children helped him to pick up the toys. After thanking all the children for the help, the teacher hold the hand of the boy and went to a corner and talked to him. I couldn't hear what she said but later I saw her gave a big hug to the boy and vice versa. The boy came out with a happy face.
They got English lessons (around 20-30 mins) four times a week. Starting from the 2nd term of K1, they have Putonghua lesson once every week. For show and tell, I think there should be such arrangement in K2. Nonetheless, every now and then my girl that they are asked to do some "show and tell". For practising communication in English and PTH, I think they often have chance to speak in English as whenever they meet the English teacher (in the toilets, at the staircase, lining up,etc.) , they would turn to the English channel as the English teacher would only talk to them in English. I once wondered whether the English teacher knows Cantonese (the headmistress told me that she does know Cantonese but won't talk to the children in Cantonese so as not to confuse them.) For PTH, I'm not sure as my girl has just started the PTH lesson.
Yes, the teachers will have enough attention to each individual child. It sounds amazing but it's true. My girl didn't like English lesson at the beginning. One of the teachers would sit next to her during the English lesson. My girl said that this made her feel comfortable/safe and not so scare. I saw some kids (with tears) sat on the teacher's lap. The teachers, even the headmistress and 主任, know the names of the children within weeks! They could tell the characters of each child. No need to worry about your kid even she's "fond of" attention seeking.
Ha!ha! I studied in St Stephen from K2 to F.7. Originally, I have planned to enroll my girl in SSKG in K2. However, after my girl have studied in SKH for a few months, I dropped the idea as my girl really enjoys her school and the teachers are very very good.
Hope you won't mind my long reply. |
