RC - Secondary - Home work

Parents of secondary RC children - what do you feel about the current level of homework for your kids ?

My kid is in Y7 - I think it is not enough..

Since there is no textbooks, we cannot even ask them to read up today or next day lessons.

Do you all know what has been or will be taught ?

I want to know more about RC secondary school.

What do you mean not enough? Do they have homework everyday?

And did your child come from another ESF school or local school?

Also, do you know whether the students are going to any overseas trip?

It is normal for ESF students not doing a lot of work at home after school as most of their work are done in school in teams.  They do not study by memorising things in textbooks, but more by experiments, doing research, reading, writing essays etc.  I guess RC may be using the same approach.

But does your kid tell you what he learn in school?

I know that RC do use textbooks for Chinese subject, so do you find their Chinese program good enough for your kid?

Hi Emily06,

They do not have homework everyday. But some of homework requires them to work on it for a few days (sort of mini project).

As for overseas trip - I am not sure for now. But I believe once they are settled, there will be overseas trips..just like the other ESF schools

I think this homework pattern is quite common amongst ISs. Most of the works are in fact completed at school. Then there are homework/projects that the children have to complete by a set deadline.

Was your child studying in a local school before joining RC?
I think you should not be too worried and let your child enjoy the free time.
He/she is only Year 7 now. I am sure in a few years' time, he/she is going to have less and less free time after school.
