St. Louis Primary School in Western district

Is this school good?  The number of P.1 class has been cut in 05-06.

I would like to find out too. It used to be a very good school when I was young-15, 20 years ago. I have applied P1 for my son. Any parents whom their kids are currently studying at SLS?

2005-2006小一 只有2班, 每班<20人.

Less than 20 in a class, are you sure? I heard that the number went up again last year when they changed to a full day school.

What the reason why they got such a small amount of students studing in last year???(competition?? or their academic n discipline result???)

It is also my standby school too. The school has huge playground, spacious class room , plus the long history and being catheric too. should not be too bad. Any SLS parents, please give comments.

St Louis has changed its method of teaching, fomat, ... in the recent years, after it re-operate the primary section again.

It has changed from half day to whole day, the medium of instruction has changed to fully English, class size has reduced to achieve better quality control.

How do you compare St.Louis n Raimondi which lots of parents like to compare these 2 schools when choosing for p1 next school(which they are boys school both)

What I leanrt was that , both schools are private and large class, assuming they have sufficient intake. With everything being equal, i will take SLS, simply because it is more spacious. I want my son to go to a school where he has lots of room to move around and play.

The 2 schools are very similar in the sense that theuy are both catholic boys’ school with long history, and famous in the western district.

However, you can really compare the two because the teaching method and approach of the two schools are very different now. St Louis has changed to small class size, fully English and whole day schooling; while Raimondi is still using the traditional teaching approach with about 40 students in a class.

If your really want to compare, I would say that St Louis is better in science subjects and Raimondi is better in Arts --- for secondary school.

It seems the changes are dramatic.  I hope St. Louis has sound training plan for the teachers.

Hi,

A friend of mine has a son studying in SLPS, so I know a little bit about it. It has changed since last year. As she said it is because the English standard of the school is not high and it afraids that will be affecting the future of the school.

Her son's kid is in P5 now. It is hard for him to adapt the new way of teaching. As my friend observe, the teachers are not that well prepared for those big changes. But for the coming P1 students, I would say it would be easier for them since they start with the new way. In fact, the school has another problem that the outsider might not know ie. discipline problem! According to my friend's description, some behave like mad dogs! I don'k know how true is that, so don't take that too seriously. She said so all because her son always get bullied by his schoolmates. But I think that happens in every school.

Her son had tried Raimondi every year since P2 but not successful. My son tried it two years ago, not successful too. We tried because a friend of us's son is studying there. And we all could see the Raimondi boy's English is highest among the three (all of them are P5). I met the boy last week again. He told me they need to speak either English or PTH at school. And they have a NET to teach oral and grammar this year. I think this school is also changing to find its best way to educate their students too.

st .louis interview 不用見家長, 而且多數都收晒.
反而因為佢比大抽籤, 好多人只係放佢係後備, 最多無左留位費$500. st.louis 在大抽之後如果抽得唔好都可以interview 入. 因為這是上年有家長過左application deadline打電話去問的.
反而ramondi就要放棄大抽籤, 大抽之後都會有位, 不過就多人爭d law.   
我上年都係放st.louis入後備, sorry 講句, 係驚師資配合唔到改革,  英文發音學壞左好難改番好ma. :  :-|

Firstly,thanks very much from all your comments about the different between St.Louis n Raimondi which is the main points that we concern. By the way, we can said that St.Louis is not difficult to be apply compare with Raimondi and they really got a problem of their discipline as well. Due I got a mom when she submitting the application, she heard someone from higher class (Secondary School's students) are speaking naughting words such as "Chee Sin". Although, it is a simply naughty words, but it should not be happened in school. Do you think so....????Any comments... Pls share....

既然收生不足, 又可需要比$500留位做後備?
可必唔到最後先申請, 我想就算開學前申請, 都會收.

**話時話. 如果以'後備'的心理, 即係唔想去啦! $500就肯定會浪費....

據我所知, st louis 改英文教學, 冇增加外籍老師, 亦冇增加其他老師, 似乎係用原班老師(即中文教學時的老師).
想知道係唔係, 打電話到校務處, 婉轉d問下'今年有冇增加英語老師', 就知答案.
