但有字典的例句是用 on the playground,
所以覺得混淆，是否有些情況用 in, 有些情況用 on?

複製自其中一本字典：
1. (學校的)操場,運動場;(兒童)遊樂場
You can find him on the playground, I think.
我想你去操場能找到他。
2. 遊樂地,度假勝地
The South of France is the playground of the rich.
法國南部是富人的遊樂場所。
3. 活動場所;樂於從事的活動
He considered journalism his playground.
新聞是他引以為樂的事業。

If playground  refers to a big flat surface, then we have to use "on". For example, on the football ground/ on the sports ground. I find Mary on the playground.

If playground refers to a garden/park, then we use "in" She is playing in the playground. He is lying down in the playground.

We can also use "at" when playground refers to a meeting point. Let"s meet at the playground this afternoon.

you say "Johnny is playing in the playground" just as you say "JOhnny is playing in the park" but you can still say "The dog was lying down on the playground".

Both are grammatically correct, it just depends what you want to say
