I thought ESF schools are international schools. They don't adopt local HK curricculum and has different teaching/learning environment. ESF school fees are one of the cheapest among all intl' schools with the govt' subvention.

ESF = English School Foundations
ESF includes many int'l schools in different areas, you can only apply to the school at your catchment area.  

ESF int'l school are also int'l school amongst others, like ICS, Canadian Int'l School, German Swiss Int'l School, etc...

Thanks for your replies. May I ask which one (ESF Vs international schools) offers better Chinese learning? What is the playground language in ESF and international schools (general speaking)? Is that true that there are more local Chinese (can speak fluent Cantonese)  studying in ESFs than in international schools?

I would love to put my kids to either type as long as the Chinese foundation is good (if they aren't accepted by DSS). Pls give me some advice.

There's a fundamental problem in your question. ESF is actually an international school. ESF provides a group of primary and secondary schools in HK, throughout HK Island, Kowloon and N.T..

So, what specifically is your question ?

Regarding Chinese teaching, ESF schools are now just providing limited Chinese. While, for other int'l schools, it really depends which one are you referring to. Some of the exactly emphasize their more balanced language teaching (English & Chinese) such as CIS, Yew Chung, Kingston, Phoenix, etc.
