How does your school select kids or enroll kids to the Speech Festival ?

If you enter by yourself, any suggested tutors or tuition centre to train the kid for competition ?

First of all, my son's school send a notice to the parents and ask if we feel interest about the Speech Festival (they divided into 3 groups which is English Speech, Putogua Speech and Cantonese Speech).

Then my son himself choose English Speech, and the school teacher as clarify by my son said, they will stand in front of the stage and test them see whether they are afraid or not.

After the selection, the teacher will called the parents and arrange a after school training.

my son got an application form from teacher last Thur. but sudden rejected --- only for girl

Hi, all,

This is an interesting topic.

I myself was very active in school speech festival once upon a time as a secondary school student. At that time, speech festival was never popular among peers because most young girls and boys find it weired to speak dramatically in front of the others. However, I did got prizes and awards through years. I never knew that it would be an advantage to my studies or career, and no evidence shows that my awards have helped path my way. As a matter of fact, I am "justamom" now.

However, I want to emphasize I have benefitted a lot from this kind of training and exposure. That laid a solid foundation for my language proficiency, my confidence, my presentation and my social skills, which are essential to a person's well being.

From your discussions, it seems that the culture of school has been adjusted to see highly upon children who are able to participate in inter-school competitions. Perhaps, I should start preparing my children for these, not only because of its practical value but more on its educational one.

I understand that children can join the speech festival by themselves through registered learning centre. Want to know more about it?

Dear all,

The kids should participate the competition through their primary school or registered learning centre. Such as my daughter, her school depatched form to all students for enrollment in early September. Teachers will then select some of them to participate. My daughter fails as the teacher said she is not loudly during a trial test. As my daughter has joined an English course, she then enroll the competition through her English school. The entry fee is HK$70 and there are set pieces for the competitors.

BTW, it seems that the closing date for enrollment is September 14.

Hi mansdom,

Not sure for every primary school whether they will provide training.

But for outside learning centre, you can enrol their class.
