我想比個小朋友學phonics,但又想去公文式學英文,我應該點選好呢? 希望大家比d意見!

多謝你既意見!
其實我個小朋友間學校都有英文會話班,但因為佢已經k3...我驚學一年就要幫佢搵第二間會好難適應
但其實公文式學英文好嗎?

Phonics is not important for non-native english speaking kids. The meaning of Phonics from dictionary is:
"A method of teaching elementary reading and spelling based on the phonetic interpretation of ordinary spelling."

Its the method to let kids know how to read and spell the words if they heard it before. So if you not speaking english very much at home and your kids will not get advantage from learning phonics.

I agreed with CherylMum, phonics is very important. My son learnt it, and now he doesn't need much time to study for dictation anymore. Most of the time, I just use 30 mins to revise with him for weekly dictation and exams. But for his cousin, same grade but my sister spends a few days (even a week before) just to study some words spelling with him. The difference is my son can spell it when you say it out, his cousin is just trying hard to memorize words and words without associating the sounds with the words. That makes a big difference.

我個女讀左10個月phonic.佢d report都ok.但係我同佢睇英文書時,佢都係吾識睇.我今個月吾再同佢返,打算遲d同佢報d英文班,學睇故事書.我希望會對佢有幫助啦..我同一個補習班老師傾,佢叫我訓練佢d句子,佢話讀小一好多小朋友都係只識單字.話口未完,我個晚同個工人傾,佢話我個女識好多單字,但係一句句子都講吾到...我開始明白一些點教佢學英文的道理了.

Not-important does not mean useless.  As I mentioned if you are not speaking english very much to your kids, learning phonics is not much help.

Its good to teach your kids english but please make sure your pronounciation is correct. Don't teach HK style pronounciation.

I do have this concern to myself whether teach kids english with correct pronounciation, so i have spent some money to take Phonetic and learn Internation Phonetic Alphabet which I never learn before in HK education system.  After taken the course I found that we have lots of HK style pronounciation where we already get used to it.

My opinion is if your school already teaching phonic, that already enough.

I am planning to join a phonics class for my daugther. Did any one know about any good place to learn phonic at Tsuen Wan area ? Is it better if the phonics class to be teached by native speaker ? Is there any difference between a local English teacher and native speaker to teach phonics?

Pls. help and share your experence!

Hi blythe,

I PM you the one me and my friends went.

However, you also need to practice with him after each class too. We go library to borrow books to read and practice that in his class books,etc. It is a continous efforts but big helps to your kid, as my own experience.

Wow, CherylMum, it is good that you can teach yourself. I have my son taking those classes in centre, and we learn together (in some ways) and go back to ask teacher if we are not sure.

To be honour,, phonics learning is quite important for the kids before P.1. In the phonics class,, they can learn the sound of the words ,is easy to read the story book or reader by themselves.I think you can let your kid start to learn and join.Otherwise you will feel hard when they spell the vocabulary.

Tsuen Wan Nan Fung Centre has a famous centre" Jolly Clown Learning Centre" .They have different kinds of the phonics scheldue.Do you call them ?
24928108,, I think it has build up your kid interesting to learn. $ 580 for 4 lessons with native speaker.The teacher are nice .My daughter enjoys studying over there.
