中大研發鼻腔手術的內窺鏡輔助操作機器人，醫生可利用綁在腳上的感應器操控，減少手部操控的負擔。


【明報專訊】香港中文大學開設全港首個生物醫學工程學系，昨舉行成立典禮。該學系隸屬中大工程學院，將於2018/19學年獨立收生，有興趣的學生毋須經工程學院的大類收生報讀。該學系系主任期望報讀學生對研究有一定興趣，收生時會看重英文、數學及科學學科成績。


屬工程學院 獨立收生


中大工程學院於2010年與醫學院合作開辦生物醫學工程學士學位課程，並於今年7月1日成立生物醫學工程學系，隸屬工程學院。現時工程學院以大類收生方式招生，每年學額500個。隨着生物醫學工程學系成立，學生可於來年直接在大學聯招系統報讀該學系，每年學額50個。


生物醫學工程學系主任湯啟宇稱，全球人口老化，未來全球對生物醫學工程專才的需求會增加，成立新學系可更集中、更自主利用資源，例如未來會着重發展生物材料、醫療儀器等範疇。學系又會在全球招聘約10名任生物醫學工程教授，共有40名教學人員。


收生方面，湯啟宇說學系會較着重數學、英文、生物、化學和物理科的成績，在計算成績比重時，上述學科會乘1.5，其他學科則只會乘1。湯補充，數學科是包括主修科及兩個延伸單元，計算數學分數時會計當中成績最好一科。


湯估計來年招收學生文憑試平均最佳5科成績有25分，高於目前工程學院大類收生的分數，湯亦期望入讀學生對研究有一定興趣。


畢業生可做生物醫學工程師


生物醫學工程學系會提供兩年基礎課程，例如醫學院的解剖學。學系提供四大範疇讓學生於第三年開始修讀，包括醫療設備及生物感測器、生物醫學圖像及信息學、生物材料及再生醫學，以及生物分子工程及納米醫學。


學系為學生提供本地及海外實習機會，學生亦可到海外高等學院如倫敦帝國學院、美國西北大學等，參加為期10周的研究及交流。


湯啟宇又稱，該學系的畢業生可成為生物醫學工程師，例如為醫院提供醫療儀器的支援服務，或從事相關研究。湯說，現時每年有兩成的生物醫學工程學位課程畢業生會繼續做研究。

One of my old tutorial students went to uk for A level after completing form 5 in hk. He sillily, chose all the top medical schools there and did not get offers while he saw some of his classmates got offers from low tier medical schools that he is ultimately accepted by Newcastle biomedical along london u.He may stand a good chance to swift to medical at the same school once he does well in the first year, or otherwise, he stands a good chance to come back to hk U's to complete his medical degree after gaining the said degree in uk, as I suggested and as the tendency to accept more second degree students in the medical field.

I would not agree that 25 from DSE is safe to be there. This course is bound to be HOT. Students are bound to be as good as those medical entrants, if not better.

I am the alumni of Newcastle. At that time only had mechanical engineering with Biomedical electives, Dr Potts was very demanding, but a very good teacher.

The starting salary of HK medical services industry is very high. Always attracts top students to apply even they are not interested in it.

For BME, each year only has one or two very outstanding students, in general better than the other engineering programs. Handful of BME graduates go for MBChB via NJ.

In such a case, do you think DSE 25 is enough to get in?

25 - The low quartile for best of 5 with matching electives.
