如果連国際學校都要上面試班,我會好驚。

有些會和家長交談,可能家長也要一起參加面試班?

we went for esf K1 interview, the children played in the classroom and the teacher will observe and tried to make conversation with them. If no response from the kid, they will try again in a very nice way. They will also ask the parents some simple questions. Actually it is totally different with the interviews at local schools, no special interviewing skills needed.

My son is going to Year 1 at an international school this year.
From my experience, the last thing you want to do is sending your child to an interview class, that would be not only be a bad idea but possibly detrimental, that's not the type of family that the schools I applied for would want within their schools. (By this I mean a family that does this will not fit into the culture of the school).

All you need to do at home are these things.

1. Read everyday with your child

2. Take him/her (using generic he from here on ..) to the playground and teach him how to interact with children he doesn't know

3. Get him to take initiative in taking care of himself at home (the more children can do by themselves, the more confident they are

4. Ask for his opinion on things during a conversation like he's an adult just like you would with a grown up friend and talk to him like you would an adult, show him courtesy when you are talking to him, just like you would to a friend .  (Obviously, providing the topics are child friendly!)

Also, during gathering where there are adults encourage him to join in the conversation (so he knows his opinions are valued, and learn how to speak up in a group situation even when he might be feeling a bit intimidated)

5. One last thing, teach him proper manners, that is to say, being nice to others not out of politeness, but out of being genuinely caring and appreciative of others.

That's it. You'd have prepared your child well for the interviews. :)

There are a few in the Universal Trade Centre on Caine Road that offer interview class for international schools. My kids didn't go but some friends of mine said if you are targeting "selective" international schools like GSIS, such class may be of help. Just my two cents. I'm not taking sides as to we should or should not send kids to interview class. I can't remember the name of the service provider but you can take a look at the building directory outside the building. There are leaflets there for taking.

I strongly advice you against joining those interview classes even if you target GSIS etc. GSIS is looking for certain types of kids to fit in their classes and there is no way to train the kids to become their type and to change their characters. At the young age they are not even testing much on academics. Even if you can train your kid to act like their type  it may end up in mismatch which will not be good for the kid and family anyway.

回覆樓主

我諗除左考GSIS同CIS之外,其他都唔使上堂,不過IS都冇問題問嘅,係觀察佢自然反應,好難練喎

Good point.   Exact my daughter case. Join the interview class but no offer at length.
