求助--新小拔插班入學試

我的小朋友將會在五月尾考新小拔插班入學試可否提供有關新小拔插班入學試之內容，內容希望可以知道是用什麼形式之筆試和程度是否和一般官小或津小一樣。因小六和小五之插班入學試已於本月八日和十五日舉行。懇請幫忙！！ :

小兒有些同學也有報考新小拔插班生. 據他一位在校成績名列前矛到小拔應考的同學說. 中文考試其中有閱讀理解, 句子重組, 作文等.. 英文考Comprehension, 其他如學校考的G.E.試題等, 但冇考作文. 中英都要考默書. 數考的內容則沒有談及. 同學說英文覺得深, 中文不算深. 這是以一個私校全級前列生的看法. 相信其考試內容不淺. 希望對妳孩子應考有幫助. 祝成功!

I share some experience from my friend.

More than 100 applicants attended a physical test,
after the first round, 20 was selected for further test. And the coach told the rest that they should perform better in the written test!

When you fill the application form, you tell what talents your kid has, if you listed out, let's say, swimming, most of the applicants noted it down actually. They will arrange a swimming test.

I just told what the coach said, but I think he mean that if you perform really good in the physical test, you have higher chance, if not, be the best in the written exam. personal guess!

Or if you stated some other activities, for e.g. ice-skating, how can they test you? so they won't arrange these tests?

Releax! 太大壓力會影響小朋友作戰的成績.
我大仔有報上roller skating 成績．但無安排考試．
可能roller skating唔係佢地重點發展的體藝項目．

我囝囝都有參加體力測試, 其實從今次測試中, 真能了解小朋友的實力嗎? 我覺得真是一個大疑問? 我是以平常心去參予, 得失與否也不是看得太重要.

I have a group of friends who have submitted the applications. Those performed well in the written tests last week include students from SFA, Kowloon Tong, APS, TSL, DBS & La Salle. They think that the English test is most difficult out of the three subjects as the unseen dictation was read out by a native teacher very quickly.

For the sports tests, only P.3 or above students are invited to perform the specific tests such as table tennis, swimming etc. For P.1 & P.2 students, they are required to perform general P.E.tests such as throw ball, reach and sit , shuttle run etc. If they perform well in the tests, their sports head Mr. Ip would invite them to perform the final tests. According to Mr. Yip, about 180 P.1 students were invited to perform the sports tests.

For the coming music tests held on 5/6/04, 6/6/04 & 12/6/04, I know only one of my friends' P.1 son who has Grade 5 violin is invited to perform the tests. Other friends with Grade 1 or 2 violin and piano are not invited to perform the test for P.1 & P.2 students. For some less favourite instruments, they are invited to the tests even one has failed in the ABRSM in horn.

I wonder if DBSPD would abosrb many students from those private schools like TSL, SFA, kowloon Tong & APS as my friends said that nearly everyone they know from these private schools have submitted the applications to DBSPD.

Why my son is not invited to the sports test nor the music test, do all applicants need to attend those test? Do you know the criteria to be chosen to attend the tests?

Yes, I know many of my sons' classmates/ schoolmates have submitted applications. I don't know how many would be accepted finally.

Dear Nickmum,

I'm not the interested party to this  admission game. So I don't know the criteria DBSPD would adopt.

According to my friends' profiles, they all accompanied recommendation letters from their coaches and music teachers.  For music, many of them have awards from school music fest and pass Grade 3 or above with meirt or above in ABRSM even for P.1 students. For sports, many of them have certificates, medals or awards from sports club, district competitions or Hang Seng Table Tennis Association.

As far as I know, those selected for final sport tests were the inter-school champions in table tennis, swimming and etc. and their names are already well-known in the field. So, it doesn't matter whether your son is invited to the music and sports tests as these champion-students are one of the best of best in their specialized area and they certainly surpass the performance of students of similar ages.

For music, I know only very few of them are selected for tests for P.1 or P. 2 students. I guess your son is studying P.1 or P.2. In such case,  your son is not the target of the selection board unless your son has passed with merit or above in Grade 3 or above in ABRSM.

Above all, I think DBSPD would only choose the music and sport elites and not the one with above-average performance.

yes, my son is studying in P2. after reading your information and those from others, i guess the chance of being admitted is very remote. although my son is quite good in academic, he is not outstanding in music or sports.
I think the school assumes that all applicants are of high standard in academics, so they use the 20 marks to identify those also outstanding in music and sports for admission.
however, i wonder if there are so many candidates who can meet such demanding criteria, if there is no 開後門(it is not realistic to think there is no!!), the school has to choose 1 out of 3 as the total number of applicants is not so great.

It appears that your friends' sons have very attractvie profiles and you are very knowledgeable in music information. Can you share your experience how they train them to become music and sports elites? Also, can you share with us later whether they are admitted by DBS?

Does anybody know the criteria of the instrumental audition? A friend of mine's son have received the invitation for the audition. However, he has got only grade 1 violin from the Royal School of Music. He is studing in Pui Ching P2. Have any of you got the invitation as well?

If you pin your hope on becoming music or sport elite, you should envisage whether it is worthwhile to spend so much effort or resources in something other than academic.

Take my exemplary friends as examples. One trains his son in table tennis seven days a week including one Sunday tutition trip to China while the other trains his son swimming seven days a week. Would you expect you can act in same way?

I personally bind the training in music as music is for life. Depending on your budgets, you can find an outstanding teacher for your son as there are many renown music teachers in HK.

I personally think that we should KNIT the LOVE with our kids in developing their interests rather than modelling them in so and so. Once they have interests, they certainly would do well.

Thanks for the advice. I agree with that very much. So I am now planning to find a better piano teacher for my son. By the way, as you mentioned before, the DBS is now having auditions for some students within these two days. Do you have any idea about the auditons? What do they test the students?

Hi mfkhung,

According to my friends, the audition took place in a relax atmosphere as the 4-member music adjuciation panel always wore smile.

They only require your son to play the prepared one to two pieces and no sight reading and scale audition are required.
