I know it's a priority and not "guaranteed", but is there a high chance for ESF students' sibling to get in ESF? Any experienced ESF students' parents could share?

Yes, has priority and better chance provided that communication in English is OK.

Higher priorty to get interview offer only, the placement offer depends on the english ability and the emotional of the child.

e.g. Year One
Children seeking entry to Year One should:-

(Oral Interaction)
•be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in routine social and classroom situations
•use acceptable social formulae (e.g. please, thank you, excuse me)
use learnt formulae, well-rehearsed patterns and short simple utterances
•give some basic personal information on request
•show understanding of past, present and future tenses through use of time references
(e.g. yesterday we…, tomorrow we…)
•follow simple instructions (relying on key words and context)
extend answers to questions beyond single word responses (i.e. phrases and simple sentences)
•be able to use simple adjectives to describe or add emphasis
•use comprehensible pronunciation, stress and intonation when speaking
•be able to sustain concentration for a group story and be prepared to participate in answering questions and prediction activities
•communicate with other children in the group using English
•indicate when they don’t understand and ask for repetition
use questions to elicit help

This is the BASIC language requirments in year one.

Applicants must demonstrate through interview and assessment that they are capable of engaging with an English medium curriculum.
Applicants learning and social skills, together with their ability to cooperate with adults and other children, will be taken into consideration.

At interview, students’ potential for language learning will be explored as well as their ability to engage and succeed within the curriculum being offered at the school.

Same here, personally I have not come across a case of a younger sibling failing to gain admission to ESF schools.

Sorry, a slight change of topic - Have you come across any cases where Hillside students (who qualify for priority interview - i.e., those who start in K1) fail to obtain an offer for Year 1 from an ESF primary school?

Don't based on past experience as the priority system list out now is revised and KG student is put on no 6 ( the last ) on the list .

Lui was reponding to my question.  Given that ESF has reshuffled the priority list, I really want to get an idea what is the success/failure rate of Hillside students obtaining an ESF Year 1 offer...

I can only say in general the children in ESF Hillside stand a better chance compared to those in other ESF kindergartens, based purely on the fact that there is only 1 ESF kindergarten on HK Island feeding to 5 ESF primary schools, compared to 3 kindergartens feeding to 4 primary schools in Kowloon and NT. Nothing is guaranteed.

Is studying in ESF kinder is essential if brother is studying in ESF primary, given there is priority for sibling?

Actually some families pull out the younger sibling from the ESF kindergarten once the elder one gains admission to ESF primary school, because the younger one will have sibling priority which is higher than kindergarten priority. The families who do this are typically the ones living quite far from the kindergarten and would rather have the younger sibling attend a kindergarten nearer to home.
