■據教育局早前公佈資料，預計國際學校學額在未來5年的需求將會增加，2016至17學年全港將欠缺約4,200個國際學校小學學額。

【商界不滿】

本港國際學校學位難求，小學學額尤其緊張。2011至12學年，有近3,900多人輪候國際學校小學的學額，港府預測短缺情況持續惡化，到2016至17學年，全港將會欠缺約4,200個國際學校小學學額。

據教局較早前公佈的資料，因來港工作海外家庭增加及本地家庭對國際學校學額有需求，預計國際學校學額在未來5年的需求將會增加。到了2016至17學年，全港將欠缺約4,200個國際學校小學學額。

除學額不足，國際學校的地區分佈亦出現錯配，港島區提供的國際學校學額佔54.3%，九龍區佔25.1%，新界區則佔20.6%。

但居於港島和九龍區的學生僅分別佔國際學校學生總數的31.6%和15.4%，居於新界區的學生佔28.6%。不少居於新界的學生現時需到香港或九龍上學。

商界一直投訴國際學校學額不足，影響香港競爭力。香港美國商會主席李國維較早前曾公開投訴，本港國際學校學額嚴重不足，外國家長最重視下一代的教育和成長環境，很多人才因此卻步。

其實有d國際學校想expand. 但很難搵到地方. 政府應該關注下

Are all applications and interviews are taken on first come first served basis? For YC and ESF KG, when should parents submit applications? Thank you for your advice!

For YCIS apply as soon as possible.
For ESF apply the autumn before the year of entry. Note though, that with interview priority only for RC & DC, certain ESF KG may not be sufficient academically as a preparation to get the child into any other quality primary schools, both IS & LS, unless you are just waiting for the big draw...

From what i heard, ESF kindie still has priority to ESF PIS (Renaissance & Discovery Colleges), so the edge is still there, plus it is still IB based so theoretically the system should link up well.

Usually the key to interview success / failure for ESF primary (if you are lucky enough to get an interview) lies in the child's verbal skills and personality. If the family has an native English speaker who communicates with the child on a daily basis at home, and the child is not too shy, then passing the interview should not be a problem (please note, Filipino helpers are in NO way the right candidate; God knows how much effort i put in correcting my helper's accent and grammar, even more so than my own child's)

For other Int'l Schools, depending on which one, their requirement may be a bit higher, probably with the basic knowledge (English & math) plus fine motor skills (drawing). You can try putting your child in additional classes such as arts or phonics for extra help.
