對Eviepa 的一番話頗有共鳴。
香港是一個特別的社會,補習產業非常豐盛。補習活動已是中小學生日常生活不會缺少活動。
HK students are very hardworking in terms of studying time. But the academic result as a whole, in terms of international recognition, was far behind European countries and the States. This has long been my puzzling question.
Does this mean that the supplementary tutorial class not effective or the quality of tuition given in schools is not good enough??
There has been quite a common phenomenon that most kids tend to learn one or two level ahead of what he / she should be learning. This results in quite a large number of so called "gifted" students. They look "gifted" because they learn in advance. For a 5 years old kid learning P3 Maths, of course he is gifted when he is being assessed per parameters of K2 or 3.
Parents in HK focus very much on marks, paying less attention on all round development, such as interpersonal skills, communication skills, presentation skills etc which are essential qualities in the real world.
Two of my friends doing graduate recruitment in international banks told me that they receive quite a number of "perfect resume" each year - that is all As in subjects, with both sport, music and art merits. However, they can't present themselves during interview. They can't survive in the highly competitive industry. |
