Is digital piano a good substitute for ordinary piano? I see it's very slim and less expensive. Sales in Parson Music said it was good for Grade 6 (or below) students (with only one pedal). Is it true? Tom Lee has some Yamaha models with 3 pedals .... is it better? I myself have no knowledge in piano at all. My son tried the digital piano in the shop and he felt the key touch is very similar to that of an ordinary piano. Can anyone give some advice?

Many say 電子琴彈classical 係唔work, but of cause ok if you are not a very serious player. Same even say upright piano touching is not good enough as you need to play harder to get the same sound from Grand.

Most piano teachers I know not recommanding digital piano but most parent want to start with it, as is it cheaper, easier to handle (take up less space), and the kid may not like to learn in a year or two.

I thought about it too, I would if it were for me, I wouldn't if it were for me son.

I guess it is depend on how serious you are about playing piano la!

我會選Digital Piano, 我有Piano, 但覺得幾麻煩, 要keep 住tune琴, 成日驚整花部琴, 要好好保養. Digital Piano就方便得多, 又多funtion, 又易打理, 隨時隨地都可以彈.

Dear All,

Could u pls give me advice on the digitial pianos:
1) Samick DX-100 $5900
2)Yamaha YDP 113 $7200
3) Yamaha YDP 117 $8500
4) Casio Pl-40R $6900

I want to buy one for my own use, I am just a begininner. :)

As per the salelady in Tomlee said the 1) and 2) or 3) should be enough for training fingers.

My girl is very bb, I want to learn first so that I can teach her 2-3 years later.

I helped my friend to choose one in TomLee before. Athough that one is much expensive but I think it's worth as you can use it for much longer. I remember that it was a yamaha d.p. and costs around $12000. Anyway, I would choose NO.3 as I think yamaha is always better than the others.
