Re: Does anyone one know whether Diocesan Preparatory School (Kowloon Tong one)
The headmaster you mentioned left three years ago. The present headteacher, in my opinion, manages the school in order, though not in a high profile.
High turnover rate of teachers - that happened last year. Most present teachers are experienced and helpful, especially P.1 and P.2 class teachers - they are crucial to the new boys.
DPS has to take in all "lucky draw" students which means for P.1, standard varies. The school has English bridging class for P.1 and P.2. If the parents put in the effort to help the boys to learn what they are taught at school, by P.3 they should reach a good standard. Boys who speak fluent English mostly comes from English speaking families. One concern is that all subjects (except Chinese Language ,PTH & Social Studies) are taught in English, parents should be prepared to put in extra efforts to train up their children.
What kiind of "fame" you are looking for? DPS only have two classes in each grade, which means the no. of brilliant students is of course less than other "famed" schools, in turn the lesser no. of trophies and headlines. Most students (all grades) I came across are polite, out-going and smart. There is a student guidence teacher who "hang around" in the playground after school to talk to the sudents most days.
There is about 3 - 4 homework each day which takes about 60 - 90 minutes to finish. Holiday homework involves projects for 1 or 2 subjects and a few language worksheets.
One drawback is that the P.1 in Sept. 2005 is no longer in the feeder system with DBS (only top 10 recommended by the headteacher goes to DBS under the new pact), there is no track record for secondary school placement.
Hope this helps. |
