As far as I know, unless you have other qualifications which satisfy the minimum requirement including English and Chinese language requirement, it is not possible that you are admitted based on first year IBDP result.
However you may be exempted for certain subjects and be granted senior status. That means you can graduate within 3 years instead of 4. I stress that it is my understanding. You should check relevant web pages of Us.

Maybe you compare with the old days.

Before hkdse normal age to u1=19( 6 years old +6 +5+2) years old. then 3 years university in hk,

DSE= 18 years old (6 years old +6 +6) . Then 4 years university in hk

IS normally = 18 (5 years old +6+3+2 IGCSE +2 IBDP) years old, then 4 years university in hk or 3 years university in uk.

i wonder what early admission from non jupas will mean for 2013-2014.

Are you saying someone who just starts Year13 in IBDP but is able to get early admission from local universities?

My D has a classmate who was admitted by HKU this year without completing the 2nd year AL. She was admitted based on her GCSE result (10A*) and 4AS result (95+).

Please share with us if you can find out whether the one you referred to has other minimum qualifications acceptable to Us. MYP is not a recognized qualifications by Us in Hong Kong for admission purpose. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

The boy is admitted by CU medicine after Y12. Really amazing!
Another case, 10 A*+3 AS conditional offer by HKU medicine in year 11. Will go to uni. in 2013/14.

Yes the two cases quoted by you support my belief that you need some qualifications to satisfy the entrance requirement. IBPD 1st yeas result alone is not recognized as the qualification for entrance

Thank you for your sharing. Now I understand more that there are flexibility on the minimum entrance requirements. My belief that you need to meet the minimum entrance requirement is outdated.

From my D's case, she was offered by both medical schools this year. Although she had a number of ECA and leadership experience, she has not had any experience of shadowing or as an intern in a hospital or a clinic because I have no connection to make such arrangement. She had applied for the medical summer program of HKU but was rejected. She was admitted to the CU medical summer program but she did not take up because of the clash of the diary.

When both medical schools gave her the offer in June, the public examination results had not yet been released. Effectively, the offers are unconditional offers. My D told me that she was satisfied with her performance at the interviews. I tend to agree with you that nowadays the Us would take a holistic approach on the application. If they find that the applicant is a good candidate and can persuade them why he should be admitted, there is a good chance that he is offered for admission although his academic result may not be at the tiptop.

I have checked the admission page of CU and HKU for non-jupas applications. Both universities set out the minimum entrance requirements for N-J applications:

(1) general academic requirement
(2) English Language requirement; and
(3) Chinese or second language requirement.

For the general academic requirement, HKU specifies a number of qualifications. Basically, if you have a foreign qualification which entitles you to apply for admission to colleges in that foreign country, the qualification would satisfy the general academic requirement.

However, for IB, they need a full IB Diploma. It does not say that MYP is a qualification acceptable for satisfying the general academic requirement.

Further the English and Chinese languages results in the MYP do not fall within the quailfications which satisfy the English and Chinese language requirement.

I understand that in a very rare occasion, the Senate of HKU may pass a special resolution to admit a student who does not meet the minimum entrance requirements (such as the precocious genius). Based on these facts, I am still thinking that your friend's kid has other academic qualifications which have not been disclosed.

It is always a good experience to discuss an issue openly with reasons with devil advocate. To be honest, I am not aware that there is in existence of self nomination scheme through NJ, at least from the webpages of HKU and CU. Please correct me if I am wrong.

We are talking about meeting the minimum entrance requirement. You don't need 42/42 PG, SAT 2300+ IELTS 8.0+ to meet the minimum requirement. If you have the US qualification, you need 1,850 SAT I, IELTS 6.5 and 3 other SAT II subjects, each of 600 or better to satisfy the minimum entrance requirement. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will be admitted on the basis of this statistic.

The statistic quoted by you would entitle the applicant to be admitted to any subject he applies for because he has already met the minimum entrance requirement (assuming he has also 3 SAT subject tests of score 600+). His academic and OLE put him in a very very competitve position.

However, if his PG is 42/42 without other qualification to satisfy the minimum entrance requirement, I am afraid that he would not be admitted even if he has years medical volunteer services, 4 weeks volunteer services in QMH, CAS in flying color, excellent recommendation from the Principal.

It is possible that one is admitted without completing Upper Six in UK. It is because he/she has satisfied the minimum entrance requirements - 3 AS subject pass, GCSE English and Chinese.
