Re: EMB, beg you to give us a break

Difficult to draw up a conclusion as to who is to blame for.
When I chatted with my friends who were teachers in subsided schools, they told me the other side of the story. They told me that most teachers have a vision in education but the parents are actually the ones who drive the schools to run into endless exams, dictations, massive homework.....The parents are "overseeing" whether the syllabus is difficult enough and the homework is massive enough to judge whether the school is good or not. If a school has to secure enough students, they would be tempted to be "parents-oriented".
As parent, I don't think that parent will like exams, dictations, massive homework. I believe nowadays parents concern very much the way of teaching more, whether it is still duck feeding or not. As I can see, most local schools, no matter famous or not, still adopt the very traditional way of duck-feeding method of teaching, with the addition of some activity-based projects, so workload of kids is even heavier than in the old days. There is very little interactive learning at school. Kids are not encouraged to speak out, but need to keep quiet all the time, even after class. Teachers prefer more one-way teaching as this will be easier and faster. I don't think this is what parents want. |
