yes I also like to respond and share my opinions as a parent of the DBSPD.
My son is at Grade 2 now. He likes go to school very much. I think that the school is kind of liberal. The school will not push the parents to do more. So I know that some parents are afraid of their children did not catch up or want their son to be the top students, they do a lot including hire tutor for their sons. Some parents like me who are working parents and with a view that balanced school life is important than merely drilling on academic result would be happy enough as long as their son can catch up and enjoy school.
It is true that the boys of DBSPD are very smart, in different aspect. Academically, many of them just in Grade 2 have already finished the English verson of Harry POtter, whole set, while my son just started to read the Wild Range Reader blue book and the Beast Quest series. Some are award winners of various sports activities while some have attained grade 5 or 8 in playing musical instruments.
It is true that there is not much homework from school but the examination papers are quite difficult. May be the range of abilities of the boys in one form has great variations so the exam paper must be set a little bit difficult to wholly reflect the ability of the students.
The only problem is the attitude of the parents. If you feel comfortable and did not want to compete with other parents, you and your son will not have pressure in DBSPD. If you want your son to be the top student, you will be pressurized as so many smart and hardworking boys there ,it is not easy to climb up to the top.
My son and I are happy to be in the middle. He takes a lot of the extra curricular activities and joins the school team such as table tennis and altheletics team, junior orchestra, basketball, ceramics, violin and piano and the go class. His everyday schedule is very full but is happy.
To conclude, DBSPD can give parents a lot of freedom and encourage students to explore and participate more in different aspects of life. |
