I think the question you need to ask is: do you know what is montessori?  and do you know how do they teach primary school kids?  Mind you, it is quite different from a montessori kindergarten in some respects.  Progress can vary greatly depending on the child.  So parents who expect to "compare" their children against classmates will be quite disappointed because there is no official benchmark.

Agree with you.  If one really wishes to know what montessori is, grab the book written by Marie Montessori.  The practical question I have is... I doubt whether there are any practitioners in Hong Kong who are professional enough to conduct the class in the "original" montessori way.  And even so, whether the parents buy the theory/method is the next practical question.

In a sense, I don't agree with the original montessori way 100%.  Times have changed, and there is the cultural factor as well.  Obviously, present day HK is quite different from Italy in the early 20th century.  The most important thing is the "spirit" in its teaching.  I am a staunch supporter of Montessori, and my son has not attended any other type of schooling except Montessori for the past...almost 3 years.  I am fortunate enough to be able to talk to a few IMS parents.  Each school has its pros and cons.  A lot of it also depends on whether your child's character fits the system.  If your child fits the Montessori way, you will be VERY surprised at what he/she can accomplish in primary school, especially if the child comes from a Montessori kindergarten.

Yes HK in 2012 is very different from Italy in 1910, but the cognitive and psychological developmental stages of kids are the same today as it was 100 years ago.  Read Piaget's or Elkind's books to find out how kids are truly like before choosing the kind of education that is child-centered and developmentally appropriate for their stage in life.  I am most happy with my kid in IMS and will let him stay till Elementary 6.  The teachers at IMS are most qualified and experts in facilitating child-centered learning.
