My child is studying at Victoria KI (Harbour Heights), I would like to know more about the Victoria Primary School. I read some messages in BK, they mentioned that Victoria Primary is using the IB Curriculum. Is it hard to transfer my child to local Secondary School? In fact, I am satisfied on the Victoria Kindergarten, even their teachers and school standard in average. So I am planning to let my child studying Victoria Primary, which is a one dragon school.
Can anyone share more about the Victoria Primary?

The standard of Victoria Primary is my main concern. In my plan, I hope my son has a happy school life. Also the school can provide a standard education and environment. For the local primary allocation, we don't like that kind of lucky draw system. For the famous primary school (Private one), I will try to apply. But it's keen competition, I don't push my child too much on such a little age. So we have to plan some backup for the worst case.

Can anyone share some opinions about the Victoria Primary?

My boy is in P3 at VEPS. He really enjoy his school life. He loves reading books (they have DEAR time - means Drop Everything And Read) and enjoy the POI (Project of Inquiries). Not much homework (around 3-4 per day for P3), and the school encourage students to join the extra curricular activities.

The IB programme focuses on the development of the child as a whole and offers a framework that strengthens children's academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural calibers. There are 10 attributes that characterize the profile of a PYP student : Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk Takers, Knowledgeable, Principled, Caring, Open-Minded, Well-Balanced and Reflective.

The new school campus in Shum Wan will be opened in 2007 (both Primary and Secondary), all the parents of VEPS are looking forward to join the new school campus.

My son is studying in Victoria Primary 1.  I have provided some comments about the school in other topics under BK so you may want to take a look at them.

I wish to point out that different streams of schools in HK (i.e. local government schools, international schools, DSS and others like Victoria) have different priorities and focuses.  Victoria and other schools who truly focus on WHOLE person development would inevitably spend less time on drilling. Instead, our kids spend more time on presentations, projects, team discussions, excursions, inquiring reasons behind things etc.  It is therefore partial to compare only the ‘academic standards’ between schools.  For instance, some elite schools use P2/P3 materials to teach P1 students.  Victoria does not have that.

In case of Chinese and Math, Victoria uses local standard P1 textbooks.  English they use a variety of teaching material/books.

The reasons we choose Victoria are:
- Happy learning environment
- Truly WHOLE person development
- Provides the environment to develop both English and Putonghua skills (all lessons except PE and Music are conducted in Eng or Putonghua)
- IB certified – implies lower teacher:student ratio; high % of native speaking teachers, qualified teachers etc.
- Through-train

I suggest you consider which stream of school is most suitable for your child.
